ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI [Posted 6:41 am] – Due to the surveillance cameras installed at Captain Mulligans Sports Bar, the police were able to make out the faces of the two men who carted off three televisions, two iceboxes and seven cases of Heineken in the early morning hours on Monday, December 5, 2011.

Randy George, one of the proprietors of the popular establishment, told Virgin Islands News Online that he could identify one of the thieves from seeing him around at the bar.

“It was someone who would come in once in a while, the other one I have never seen before. But from the footage we know who they are,” he said.

According to George, the cameras showed the men entering the open bar at around 1:50 a.m. on December 5, and after they began to scout around - switched off the power around 2:22 a.m.

However, before the power was turned off at least one television was removed from the premises, the proprietor added.

A report was made to the police around 10:45 a.m. on December 6. when George and staff went to open the business. He estimated the items stolen were worth a little over $3,000.

The Sports Bar was burglarised twice before; hence the installation of the cameras, which George added was a worthwhile investment.

He also commended the Police for their swift response and investigative skills.

Interestingly, on December 3, 2011 the Road Town Anti-Crime Group cautioned home-owners and business-owners to be especially security conscious during the holiday season to “avoid making a burglar’s Christmas wishes come true”.

The press release had stated that while local statistics on Christmas burglaries have been hard to come by, the trend around the world is for burglaries to spike around this time and into the New Year.

Burglaries as a whole have been rising steadily in the territory for the past five or six years with more and more property-owners reporting that they have been affected.

Footage of these theives should be put up online so we can all see who these morons are and have them arrested. I strongly beleive in shaming these kind of idiots and feel that part of their punishment should be to stand by the roundabout with a big sign saying that they are a theif - that kind of shame may scare off a few other wannabe morons.
