ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The BVI Diabetes Association was on the receiving end of a much needed donation from proceeds raised at the recent Las Vegas style gala dinner hosted by the Mrs BVI Pageant Committee in conjunction with this year’s queen Mrs Shevon A. Findlay.

The cheque was handed over to the association on Friday March 13, 2015.

Speaking with Virgin Islands News Online about the activity that resulted in the raising of the funds, Director of the group, Mrs Alicia Green recalled it as being a night well spent with the best of entertainment.

Stage, lights and action were at the Multi-purpose Sports Complex when the Mrs British Virgin Islands Lifestyle Challenge Group presented a Las Vegas style dinner show gala. The group and initiative were reinstated with a vision to offer empowerment to women and men who will enjoy their programme through community outreach and educational awareness on communal matters, ” Mrs Green said.

She added that the production was created with a mission to provide an avenue to expose young and talented artists of the VI. Dinner was served and enjoyed while listening to the sounds of Phoenix Reloaded band from the ESHS.

“The show began with an electrifying performance by Tune House. Other performances included Sasha Wintz rendering a piece from Whitney Houston, “There is nothing” and “At Last” by Etta James. The show continued with a soulful piece from bassist Miss Thea Cooke, seven-year-old Ariella Oliver, with captivating dance in the sky. There was a poetic performance by Artful then a fashion display featuring swimwear and resort wear from Trefle and beautiful pieces from Unlimited by Jermaine. Mrs British Virgin Islands Shevon Findlay displayed her dramatic skills and talents when she presented the marriage of education and empowerment utilising her entire family of six and Mr Findlay.”

Mrs Findlay then presented her original pieces for swimwear, which depicted a sailboat and a stunning piece for her evening wear designed by Unlimited by Jermaine. The idea behind the design of the evening gown is to depict the major islands of the territory while decorated with sequins which illustrated the population of each island. It was a must see and she will also grace the stage at the Mrs Globe Pageant slated for Shenzhen, China in November.

Superwoman Findlay

Findlay has been married for seven years and is the proud mother of six while owning and managing a 24-hour day care centre on Virgin Gorda. Her community involvement includes being the PTA president of both the Bregado Flax primary and secondary schools. We call her our superwoman and wish her the best as our spokes model and representative for the year, stated Mrs Green.

At the end of the show, Ms Pearline Williams-Vergeer- Mrs British Virgin Islands 2000- presented Mrs Findlay with her prized package, which included a smart phone from Digicel, official trophy, flowers by Bella Bloom Florists. Also included are trips to the Mrs Globe and Mrs World pageants to represent the Virgin Islands in a wardrobe designed by Unlimited by Jermaine and pieces from Beautiful by Jasanay.

Clement paved the way

Ms Sabinah Clement, Mrs British Virgin Islands 1999, graced the stage as the host for the evening. She is endorsed as the ambassador who made the VI stand out at both the Mrs Globe and the MrsWorld pageants by making it to the top 10 in both international events that saw some 50 countries taking part. Locally, she captured the Mrs Caribbean title and also had the opportunity to host the Mr International pageant in India.

“This was truly a one of a kind evening and event, and this was echoed by one of the attendees who look forward to more events like this from the group. Mrs Green responded to make everyone aware that we would be engaging throughout the year with entertaining and educational events aligned with our platform while empowering our women. There is a buzz around town, to conceptualise the Mrs BVI Lifestyle Challenge Group and the Mrs BVI Initiative,” Mrs Clement said.

Empowering women

The Lifestyle Challenge Group invites women who are either married, separated or widowed to participate in spiritual, emotional and physical empowerment activities to revitalise their personal development and build strong and confident women to effectively balancefamily, careers and community life. At the end of the challenge there will be a showcase where one of the ladies will be chosen to be the spokes model and representative for the year and have an opportunity to represent the group and the territory. We will be recruiting new candidates for the challenge in July of this year however if you are interested, feel free to contact us through our website at mrsbvi.com.

Expressions of gratitude were made to the committee’s many sponsors and supporters, including Love Affairs, Beautiful by Jasanay, Belle Girls, Bella Blooms Florist, Dmac Creative, Makeup Magic by Dani, Road Town Wholesale, Speedy’s, One Stop Mall, Ocean Conversion, CBE Enterprises, Dr Simmonds at FSN, Mrs Cathy Title, SRM Photography, De Best Cup West End, Joma Properties, Digicel, Video and Audio Productions and BVI Entertainment Company (Popeye).

Special thanks were extended to Imran Ashton of Plumrose Catering for providing the delightful dinner to the guests.

The beneficiary of this event was highlighted as the BVI Diabetic Association’s Emergency Fund to aid with youth diabetes treatment and services.

“If you missed this show you can purchase a professional production of the event where the proceeds from the sales will also go to the mentioned beneficiary,” said Mrs Green.
