ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Cyclists of the BVI Mountain Bike Club will be facing torture this Sunday May 31, 2015 when they embark on the Tour de Tortola, a 37 km ride up hill and down dale.

Registration will take place down at Village Cay this Friday May 29, 2015 from 5pm to 6:30pm with an entry cost of $30 which will include a post-race breakfast down at Trellis Bay.

Race time on Sunday is 6am sharp.

“Why lounge around in bed on the morning of Sunday 31st of May when you can get up while it’s still dark, punish yourself by whipping your own back with birch twigs before embarking on a 3-4 hour test of pain endurance by taking on the Tour? Sounds wonderful doesn’t it?” commented MTB Club Co- Secretary, Iain Walker.

In a slight change from previous years, there will be one start time of 6am from Trellis Bay before heading over the Beef Island Bridge and turning west towards Road Town and towards West End, past the ferry dock and up and around Steel Point, through Smugglers Cove, Long Bay, Apple Bay and Carrot Bay and into the big climb of the day- up Windy Hill- before hitting the energy sapping Sage Mountain.

“If you make it to the top, head towards Rudy’s Bar and then onto the Ridge Road all the way to Josiah’s Bay junction. From there head on up towards Lambert, past there and onto the last climb towards the prison, then down and around back to the airport and the finish line,” smiled Walker.

Riders will be facing some 37 miles of pain.

“This is without question the toughest cycle race on the island bar none. I would like to throw down the challenge to anyone who thinks they’re hard enough, be they on this list or not. Please pass on to anyone you feel would be daft enough to be interested,” concluded Walker.
