Motorcyclists, including a 17-year-old, among latest arrests by police

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- At least two motorcyclists were recently arrested and charged by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) for various offences as police clamp down on motorcyclists breaching the law.

According to the police arrest blotter for January 12 - 18, 2020, one of the cyclists arrested as a 17-year-old.

Driving without driver’s licence

According to the RVIPF, on January 18, 2020, police arrested and charged a 17 year old male of Purcell Estate for Driving without Driver’s License, Driving without Front Identification Plate, Driving without Police of Insurance, Driving Unlicensed and Uninsured Motor Cycle.

The teenager was granted bail in the amount of $5,000 with one signed surety to appear before the Magistrate’s Court on February 24, 2020.

Refusing to give name & address

The RVIPF further said that on the same day, police arrested and charged Renardo Richards, 36 of Huntum’s Ghut for Refusing to Give Name and Address, Driving Unlicensed and Uninsured Motor Cycle and Riding without a Helmet.

Richards was granted bail in the amount of $5,000 with one signed surety to appear before the Magistrate’s Court on February 24, 2020.

It was on January 17, 2020 that Commissioner of Police, Mr Michael B. Matthews, via a press release, urged riders who “make use of motorbikes to do so responsibly, abide by all the laws of the Territory and to wear all required safety equipment mandated by law.”

He also encouraged bikers to use their bikes in a safe manner, bearing in mind there are other motorists on the road, to observe all road signs throughout the Territory “as the Force continues to robustly enforce the laws.”

Murder

On 15-01-20 at 1003hrs, Police arrested and charged Andraes Norford, an inmate at Her Majesty’s Prison for Murder. He was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison to reappear before the Magistrate’s Court on 26-03-20 at 0900hrs.

Theft

On 17-01-20 at 2155hrs, Police arrested and charged Michael Glasgow, 35 of Paraquita Bay for Theft, Proceeds of Criminal Conduct, Breach of Trust and False Accounting. He was granted bail in the amount of $80,000 with one signed surety to appear before the Magistrate’s Court on 25-02-20 at 0900hrs.

Possession of a Controlled Drug

On 13-01-20 at 1150hrs, Police arrested and charged Malcolm Smith, 30 of Brandywine Bay for Possession of a Controlled Drug. He was granted bail in the amount of $5,000 with one signed surety to appear before the Magistrate’s Court on 25-02-20 at 0900hrs.

Criminal Damage

On 12-01-20 at 2130hrs, Police arrested and charged Deylon Wilson, 26 of Carrot Bay for Criminal Damage, Attempt to Choke and Common Assault. He was granted bail in the amount of $5,000 with one signed surety to appear before the Magistrate’s Court on 19-02-20 at 0900hrs.

      You think family members of any class or type don’t do wrong too? A lot of times they are the ones that makes the most violations cause they feel they have a easy way out.

    But I see so many scooter riders without plates, helmet, wearing flip flops, riding small children in the back. This is insane! Little children can get killed if they fall off or get into an accident. I saw a little boy around 11 years old riding on one up country. If everyone can see them, why not the police? Seriously.
