DUFF'S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI- The historic motion brought to the House of Assembly (HoA) by Senior Member of the Opposition, Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3) to reprimand the Governor has failed in the House of Assembly (HoA) after only receiving two votes in its favour moments ago, June 5, 2020.

Hon Fraser had brought the motion to the Eighth Sitting of the Second Session of the Fourth House of Assembly at the Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff's Bottom, Tortola on May 28, 2020, over the late tabling of the BVI Airways (BVIA) report from the Auditor General.

Following the debates, which saw most of the contributors shying away from speaking up against the Governor and not stating clearly their position on the motion, it was requested by Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) that the motion goes to a vote.

The motion failed 2-9 as only Honourable Fraser and Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) voted in favour of it.

At the time of the vote, At Large Representative Hon Shereen L. Flax-Charles had stepped out of the proceedings as she was not well while Fourth District Representative and Opposition Member, Hon Mark H. Vanterpool was absent.

Hon Fraser had made it clear that he was only seeking to have the Governor reprimanded as was within his rights as provided in the Constitution, Erskine May and the Standing Orders of the HoA, and that he was not seeking to have the Governor recalled.

More details to follow.

I am disappointed in the members failing to support this motion. They were within rights to move this motion and reprimand the governor. I wonder if it was a governor of another colour how the approach would have been. This motion really tested our leaders mindset to the powers that ruled over us for centuries. This was an opportunity to show that we could unite when it came to our interest as a people, a people who came out of slavery and are charting a new course for ourselves. Instead we show that we can't stand up to mother hen. We are not ready for self determination. The man at the white house must be laughing with his buddy from the supermarket office! Wine bottles will pop tonight. The oppresser is still in control...mentally.

This ain't got jack to do with colour. The parties without a backbone voted the way their colleagues voted while those on the opposition voted No due to the fact that the reprimand involved the party they were on at that time they were the sitting government.

What a hot mess mercy. Waste of time in the house but they have to know why they said no plus some abstained. I'm proud that 7th district shows he has an independent mind.

What a set of cowards?? The Governor only pushing to test the limits of what he can get away with. He should have been held accountable just as he is supposed to hold our leaders accountable!! Respect to the two reps who voted yes. Good governance means no one is exempted from the set rules and procedures; no even massa!!

No surprise here. That motion was bound to be defeated. This was a waste of precious time which could have been used to address other issues. I am sure that when Frazer decided to bring this motion he knows deep within his heart that it was not going to get anywhere but knowing how stubborn and vindictive he is, he will stop at nothing. I feel the Governor made an error in judgement when he held on to that report for so long, yes he was in breach of sec. 22 of the auditors act but why bring a motion to the house to reprimand him when you fully well knows that the HOA have no power to do so. When should have been done, as the Premier did, it to write to the FCO, point out what the Gov. did wrong and asked them if they see it fit in the circumstances that he did something wrong to give him a formal reprimand.

These politicians are misleading the people of this country,by making stupid statements in parliament, just to show that they are against the UK in a Uk overseas territory. How can you bring a motion to the house when there is no law and no rule for such a motion.Blame the Governor for that too.

Why aren’t jobs there advertised locally so we can apply? Why he only hire All foreign white peoples? We blacks no good for him? RIP George Floyd.

Gus is a fantastic guy, he works so hard to bring BVI out of the dark ages and do what's right to help this beautiful country & it's people because it's run by idiots.
Poor Governor thrown into that job shortly before Irma and instead of applauding him for all he's done and for sticking it out through the hell all of you are trying to bring him down.
Reality check he's BVI's only voice of reason!
