VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI – Recounting on some of the things that would have chalked up a ‘plus’ in making the 2014 Virgin Gorda Easter Festival a success is the fact that most of the persons who participated in especially the Calypso competition were able to get their cash monies before the festival ended.

This Chairperson of the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival Committee Sasha D. A. Flax related to this news site during an interview yesterday May 27, 2014. She noted that it was regrettable that one of the competitors’ cheques had bounced and another still to be paid.

“The thing is we are still awaiting the balance to come to us and I am confident that they are working to ensure we get it because I was informed that the money is being processed as we speak,” stated Ms Flax.

Ms Flax said that the challenges this year were not many and are ones that they intend to strategize as a team to prevent from happening in 2015. She noted that new concept of the party truck for the ‘rise and shine/J’ouvert morning tramp’ had its challenges.

She said that it was not until after the tramp had come to an end that they had learnt that one of the singers, ‘Jugo’, did not get to do any singing as a result of him not having a microphone. “If I had an idea that was the case from up front we would have made sure that was fixed but it didn’t go that that but we know better for next year,” she said.

The late start of the both the parade and rise and shine activities was also pointed out as an issues to be addressed. While noting that once they got started they went well and did finish on time, she said that technical problems came up with the sound systems that were to lead.

She said that the committee has since met and did a post mortem of the entire 2014 activities and among the decisions made were that they will be holding a community meeting to give a feedback and take recommendations from residents, “We don’t want our people to feel shut out, they are a major part of this being successful so we want to hear their thoughts to guide us to next year.”

She however noted that they are awaiting the release of the balance of monies from the authorities to ensure that all are paid before the meeting is called.

The committee has already drafted a number of strategies for going forward.
