Morris would consider COP job!

- Sees Alwin James as potential COP

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – If offered the position of top cop at the end of his contract next year, the now acting Commissioner of Police David Morris would “consider it”.

“My contract comes to an end on May 31, 2013, and it’s a decision for the Police Service Commission, the National Security Council and the Governor,” Mr. Morris told this news agency in a recent exclusive interview.

The acting COP took over the mantle from his former boss Reynell Frazer, who went on pre-retirement on March 31, 2012.

Meanwhile, Mr. Morris praised his second in command - Alwin James – and is of the view that he has what it takes to be COP as well.

“Mr. James is an experienced police officer, who has a very good background in crime, is well respected in the force and I have the same close relationship with him as the Deputy just as when I was a Deputy to Mr. [Reynell] Frazer.

“We work closely, we discussed things and we take things forward together. It’s about the force having a good command structure and the officers having the confidence in that command structure. Personally, I think he would make a good Commissioner of Police in the future, but again the decision who is the COP in the force is down to the Governor, the National Security Council and the Police Service Commission,” the COP said.

In June 2010, Mr. James received the first clasp Police Long Service Medal for 25 years of service. As the head of the Crime Unit, he was responsible for officers who handle high profile cases including murder, armed robbery and drug trafficking.

See what going on here two expats taking up the two top positions…Morris form the UK, James from Dominica…look what we locals come to?

Not yet. He will only consider it if offer suits his terms and conditions (I suppose). BTW, James has dedicated his entire life to the BVI, it is so petty to refer to him as "expat." The man is even married to a local. Come on. Only in the BVI, he can be called an "expat." In any event, why don't you apply? Who knows the Governor may well consider you particularly with your "name." LMAO

In The united states only American Citizen can hold national security Positions. Here In the British Virgin Islands when it comes to National Security they have Tom dick and harry in these positions because they do not want to pay the money what the jobs calls for.Look At the airport Security and The B.V.I ports security. To Locals Vincent O'neal and Mr Fraser.Just from not hiring locals this what they do.SO what is the National security of this country doing about this.

Is that true? You certainly don't have to be a US Citizen to serve in the US military. I know at least two Jamaicans who are serving in the US Army despite not being US Citizens.

What does @ Jamaicans serving in the mililtary have to do with us here in the BVI?!!!!!!!!

One does not have to be a US citizen to serve in the US military; you must be a us citizen or a green card holder to enlist. But non citizens are restricted from serving in some skilled areas. They cannot serve in specialities that require a security clearance. In fact they cannot review security documents and must be escorted through secured areas. Should BVI top law enforcement and security positions be manned by qualified citizens?

The laws of the united states clearly indicate that only citizens can hold a Federal job, run forvpresident, vote in a federal election etc. First the BVI will have to establish rules and laws to really govern this country, and stick to them. A citizen is any person that is born there or a naturalize person. That make a person a citizen. I cannot votecin St. Thomas because I just have a green card, having a green card do not give you citizen status, it gives you residence. let us understand laws before we start speaking. Mr. James, Mr. Browne and all these other people living among us are considered citizens of the BVI if they went through the naturalization process.

BVI is a UK Dependent Territory. The UK, with the Governor as it's representative is responsible for the security of all overseas territories, which include the BVI. The UK is responsible for our security. A UK citizen here with the blessings of the UK itself as well as the Governor if he becomes COP will be a threat to national security? LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! You all does get some ... say in this place!! The BVI has any national security? The only security we have is that which the UK provides, not a damn thing else! Don't get mixed up with Social Security, that's for pensioners lololol.

how have we given away our country. The BVI is a melting pot for the Caribbean just like the United States is forvthe world. Let us not forget that. We are going to say and say stuff and mess then the USA government is going to send in their TSA (security) to monitor how we are doing things in the BVI. We have to be careful because we do not know who is watching us right now. We never know who are on our shores.

This is a news flash. No, not really. Morris was tapped to be the COP during his sham selection as the DCOP. just in case you forget here is the scenario. It was ascertained that no one in RVIPF or in the region was qualified to be DCOP. They found someone deep in Wales more qualified and familiar with the community and its needs than any local or regional police officer. And the PSC, NSC and governor bought this unbelievable crap. One can understand though not agree with governor's reason. But the others were displaying the crab in a bucket syndrome. It was simple what the plan was. If one does not meet the qualification for DCOP, one cannot qualify COP. Thus Morris is a shoe in for the job if he wants it; he indicated he does. If he does not get it, I may strongly consider eating my shoes. But I know that I will not have to consider. Furthermore, I'm wrong I will say so on this site. So no locals were qualified to be DCOP yet Brown went on to be COP of Antigua & Barbuda, which is larger jurisdiction with a larger force; Antigua and Barbuda is approx. 171 square miles with an approx population of 70000 while the BVI is appr ox 59 square mile with an approx population of 30000. Further several months after Morris came aboard as DCOP, COP Frazer retired and Morris was appointed to act as COP. And interestingly Roy Stoutte and Alvin James both members of the RVIPF were considered to act as DCOP; James was appointed. Either the process was rigged before or these guys are fast learners or perhaps they were always qualified. Morris talked up his working relationship with James, as well as his qualifications for COP. But what was glaringly missing was his working relationship with the former COP. Just reading between the lines but I may be out inlegt field.

Amazing. That is what, 15 replies so far? And not one is concerned about who the best person for the job is. Every single one of them is concerned about where the next Commish comes from... I don't give a damn if they get him from darkest Peru, so long as he can do a good job.
    • Smith (14/07/2012, 12:36) Like (0) Dislike (0) Reply
You sound very British but the fact is this is our country and we should have a say. Firstly, Morris has admitted theat James is ready for top COP. Secondly, we do not need people from the dark holes of Peru. BTW, it is the dark holes of Calcutta. Our intelligence must not be underestimated: Why must a foreign national get a top job as Commissioner of Police? In our country? Our locals have done well. The Government must play its dual role in recruiting the right person. The Governor needs assistance as he is one-sided. Look at the scenario: UK Governor, UK COP, UK Commercial court judge, UK lawyers and trust companies making tons of money. They can NEVER live the same lifestyle as they live here. Many will argue that they came to make our industry better. Where is the proof? If there is no truth in what I am saying, lett them leave. When you arrive at Heathrow, just because you are black, they turn up their noses just by seeing you. In fact, right here it is happening- look when they are together especially those from South Africa. Why are we not looking to our own people? And ALBION, who says our own policemen cannot do what Morris is doing? All he is doing is running to the newspaper every day. Surely, we can do that. dONT TRY TO JUSTIFY ANYTHING ALBION.

But wait Morris aint the first nor will he be the last to be Commissioner, point is when you really look at it other than James and Vere Browne himself (neither from Tortola) nobody else ready to step up in the seats of Deputy or Commissioner. There are some with potential in the future but none ready now. We need to stop this piss as locals and ready our selves for these positions and stop sitting down and waiting for handouts. We need to start being concerned with moving our country forward and not just padding our pockets. So what if Morris is from Wales, is he doing anything positive for the Force? That is my only concern.

Smith you clearly don't understand the court system, or our system of living. The Commercial Court is not OUR court it is the commercial division of the EASTERN CARIBBEAN SUPREME COURT. Further, Bannister, is here is only acting in the Capacity of a High Court Judge, he has not been confirmed as one yet, something that many QC's here do, for example Benett and Archibald sometimes act as the Court of Appeal Judges, and it is not something that the GOVERNOR actually plays a part in, it is the duty of the Judicial and Legal Services Commission that makes the decision. May I also remind you that we have many lawyers here from all over the world, not just the UK. You dare ask what benefits do they bring....oh idk perhaps the minor issue of international integrity and security something that our infrastructure lacks. Those lawyers who come here have great expertise in offshore areas, and although the local lawyers are just as skilled there are too few of them. You should not care where the commissioner comes from as long as they get the job done. As far as I can see, however, this is something that Morris has yet to get around to.

Morris will not only consider it- he will grab it. England retires people at 50 so he is a retired man there with nothing to do. Here, he will become the COP. Who would not grab it if you were in his shoes. Plus, everyone who comes to the Caribbean either leave with a fat gratuity or a Caribbean woman. We are the best in the Caribbean. Enjoy the Caribbean Mr. Morris. And dont consider it, grab it for it is the best offer you can ever get.

This is sooo funny but it is a fact. But, I must add Caribbean man also. LMAO But let'sbe practical. Where on earth will Morris with a diploma get a job like this? There are so many qualified West Indians and BVIslanders who qualify. It is a fact that people who cannot adapt to our culture in a matter of months. You have to be born in it. How many BVIslanders hold so equivalent jobs in the UK. Alsobutley none. Therefore it is time that our own people take up the mantle. Certainly, they will not be paid the "fat" salary that Morris is getting and that is another inequality. If there are no qualify people, then we look outside but there is Stoutt, James, Amory etc. These guys are either born here or spend their lives here. In fact, seeing what is going on, it;s time that we lobby for a UK Governor because the Governor hinself does not know our society. When they are together, they play us down - think we are a bunch of illiterates and live on trees. So, it s not shocking when they come to our shores that they find the oppoisite - many people more qualified and well spoken than they are. True we have an accent. They also. But the bottomline is: we have to put our own people in top places or who else would?

Lawd ah mercy! They will not be considered now, for mentioned that they in the BVI. Their being born in the BVI is not their only problem; they may not fit in the right social stratification. Though it has made significant strides in the social status area,, it still has work to do. The crab in the bucket still plagues us. Do not trust me just look at how we treat each other and pull each other down and big up others.

Is acting COP Morris sending a trial balloon to assess the community 's reaction to his continued stay in the BVI or he is announcing that he will here well beyond his initial ACOP contract. Was this a Trojan Horse? Look as if uses the media for self promotion when it suits him. And questions the freedom of the press in other circumstances? The ACOP is a media w.....e.
