ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – President of the Virgin Islands Horse Owners' Association Patsy C. Lake said that this coming Sunday, Father's Day June 19, 2016, a number of persons who have made significant contribution to the sport of horse racing in the territory will be celebrated.

The celebration is to take the form of a grand luncheon at Ellis Thomas Downs in Sea Cows Bay. Tickets for the event are $30 for adults and $15 for children 12 years and under and can be purchased from any member of the Association as well as at the One Stop Mall in Road Town.

This luncheon is a 'part two' of one held in April honouring some more stalwarts in the sport of horse racing which is engrained in the ethos and culture of the Virgin Islands. Those honoured at the luncheon held at Ellis Thomas Downs on Sunday April 17, 2016 were Rita Francis, William Rymer, Mark Simmonds, Granville Christopher, John Nibbs and Winfred Maduro.

The luncheon will be held on the concrete area in front of the grandstands and the persons being honoured at the luncheon which will start at 1:00 pm are Earl 'Bob' Hodge and Violet 'Letty' Delville-Hodge, Elvin 'Skinny' Stoutt, Ottley Gumbs, Ina Elaine Class, Karl Thomas, Bennett Brewley aka Lord Strawn, and Jim Smith who is deceased.

“They have all made a contribution to horse racing in one way or another. Some are horse owners while some are caterers or have contributed meaningfully in some other way. It is going to be Father's Day and we are asking the people to come out and support the honourees and also to support the Horse Owners' Association,” she said.

According to Mrs Lake, she has not yet finalised which horse owners will make their horses available for exhibition races on the day.

I am planning to hold an 1st annual awards dinner - complete with mediocre food, high cost, everybody I know on the top table, long speeches, and cheap tacky trophies. Please come and support it - if you don't come you are clearly against local culture, white and a racist. The white loving Government won't sponsor my awards dinner for more than $15k because none of their white friends are going to be honored.

The haters loose again. History in the making. This is a part of our history and Big up to Mrs. Lake. Good to see Jim Smith, Earl Hodge, Karl Thomas and all the rest. The other Ottley, Ivan and a bunch of others still to come. Know your history and no one can take it from you.
