PARAQUITA BAY, Tortola, VI- More than forty (40) persons who stood out in a number of areas such as Heroism, Volunteering, Organisational Development, Scientific/Engineering and Technological Achievements, Service to clients, Administrative Support, Leadership, Personal and Professional Excellence, were recognised at the 2nd annual Public Service Excellence Award (PSEA).

The ceremony was held at Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium, H. Lavity Stoutt Community College in Paraquita Bay last evening, September 29, 2016.

PSEA is bestowed as a recognition programme that aims to recognise high achievers and improve employees’ morale in the service.

‘Continue to be excellent’

In his remarks, Governor John S. Duncan OBE commended all the nominees for their excellent work and urged them to become examples so as to encourage others to go above and beyond their call of duty.

“Continue to be excellent, there are many more categories that you can excel in therefore strive to be excellent and continue making the changes that will improve the public service, your peers, and yourselves,” he said.

Also delivering remarks was Premier Dr The Hon D. Orlando Smith, who said he was pleased that the government continues to maintain a culture of appreciation and celebrations through recognition programmes such as this one. He added that the programme is part of the public sector reform, which is important to helping the government fulfill their mandate and mission.

“One crucial aspect of our reform initiative is the ongoing effort to modernise our public service infrastructure to ensure that public officers can remain responsive to the needs of the community. As we celebrate these collective contributions, and accomplishments, it must be understood that they are not overnight success stories, but rather it is the result of purposeful dedication and purpose-in leadership, teamwork, and innovation, as well as personal and professional development.”
