More than 200 to Graduate at HLSCC on Thursday

PARAQUITA BAY, Tortola, VI- More than 200 students will graduate when the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College holds its 19th commencement exercise on Thursday 14 June at 4:00 p.m. under the Tent on the lawns of the Paraquita Bay Campus. The public is invited to the ceremony.

The 2012 graduating class consists of a total of 203 students, including 157 graduating with various HLSCC degrees and certificates and 46 from the United Kingdom based Chartered Management Institute programmes available through the College.

As part of the ceremony, Dr. Karl Dawson will deliver the President’s Address, while the keynote speaker will be Mr. Gossett Oliver, a Vice President of the University of Technology in Jamaica.

Premier and Minister of Finance Hon. Dr. D. Orlando Smith, Minister of Education and Culture Hon. Myron V. Walwyn, and Chairman of the College’s Board of Governors Dr. Charles Wheatley will deliver greetings to the graduands. Vice President Dr. Anne Monroe will also deliver brief remarks and introduce the 2012 class, while President Dawson will award certificates and confer degrees to the graduating students.

Student respondent this year is Esteban Smith, who is graduating with the Associate Degree in Arts, General Studies, Advanced Level English.

HLSCC was established in 1990 as the British Virgin Islands Community College. The institution was subsequently renamed in honour of the founding chairman of the College’s Board of Governors, the late Chief Minister Hon. H. Lavity Stoutt. The first graduation exercise was held in 1994.
