ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Her Majesty’s Customs, under the leadership of Commissioner Wade Smith, has continued its crack-down on boats entering the Virgin Islands (VI) without clearing Customs or Immigration.

It was last weekend, July 2, 3 2016, that some three boats were seized at the Village Cay Marina for violating Customs laws. They were fined and released. The pleasure boats were reportedly from Puerto Rico.

Our newsroom is also investigating another boat seized at Nanny Cay Marina. The vessel belongs to a prominent businessman who owns an island in the Virgin Islands.

Name of prominent person not being released

While conducting our investigation, we called Commissioner Smith to confirm the name of the boat owner, but he was tightlipped, saying he couldn’t comment on that at this time.

Our newsroom will stay on top of this matter.

Within the past months, Her Majesty’s Customs has stepped up its surveillance on boats of all kinds and sizes entering the VI waters without clearance, hence violating the laws of the territory.

HM Customs has seized, fined and released a few yachts from marinas throughout the Overseas Territory of the Virgin Islands.

It is so refreshing to see a Government agency actually performing the duties which they are supposed to. But since Customers has increased their enforcement they have never said who any of the boats belong to, perhaps its an internal policy and not reserved for "the white boy".

I want to nominate Customs as department of the year. Great Job! I would like to see other departments step up. we are to laid back and the country leaving the hands of the indigenous bvi landers. Time enough to let these people understand it's not a free for all and do what you want here we have laws. Great job to the customs dept.
