WICKHAM’S CAY II, Tortola, VI – This news site has confirmed through informed and reliable sources at The Moorings that workers there – numbering approximately twenty to twenty-five – have been given letters of termination.

According to Virgin Islands News Online’s sources there, the axed workers were drawn from among the laundries, Dock and Hodges Creek locations.

The terms and conditions surrounding the staff-shedding and the reasons for it have not been confirmed as several valiant attempts to reach General Manager of The Moorings Mr Clarence Malone or the Human Resource personnel proved futile.

Further details will be forthcoming as they are made available to this news site.

If a lot of outsiders start arriving for these jobs, Labour should be informed immediately to halt the process. We already have enough people already here to fill those positions. Something here is scandalous.

Nothing could be further from the truth. The truth is they have targeted the locals have and seen that there is no representation for them. The same locals you claim are inept are hired by overseas companies but their lives and homes are here and so staying here in their choice...but for how long

The problem is you need to "adapt" yourself back to your own country and stop displacing the people of these islands.

Um, moorings is a seasonal company....obviously don't have enough bookings for summer so laying off now. Come oct nov they hire again. Get rid of the dead weight now and use the ones that work during the summer. If you don't pull your weight nowadays you gone!
    • . (08/04/2014, 10:08) Like (0) Dislike (1) Reply
What utter crap. Moorings is far from seasonal. Yacht charters go on year round. They just want to bring in another crop of expats to work for little or nothing and never demand any rights. The BVI is creating a permanent underclass of BVIslanders. That is a dangerous road to take.
