ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The three top basketballers from the Territory, Norville ‘Banana’ Carey, Deon J. Edwin and Leslee J. Smith, all made significant contributions to their team’s performance, but with differing results.

Senior guard Jimmie Taylor (Branford, FL/Suwannee) scored a season-high 23 points, but the Rider University men’s basketball team’s second-half comeback bid came up short Thursday night, December 1, 2016 against Fairfield, 76-67. With the loss in the Broncs’ home and league opener, Rider falls to 3-3 (0-1 MAAC). The Stags move to 5-1 (1-0 MAAC) with the victory.

Fairfield’s Tyler Nelson scored a game-high 38 points on 11-of-20 shooting, 6-of-10 from long range and 10-for-10 from the free-throw line. Amadou Sidibe added a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds.

“Poor performance by us tonight, all the way around,” said Rider Head Coach Kevin Baggett. “Offensive, defensively, transition, taking care of the ball. I don’t really have a lot of positives to say.”

Norville Carey was 3 for 7 from the field, 2 for 4 from the free throw line, for a total of 8 points, added 8 rebounds and picked off 2 steals.

Edwin & Kent State overcome Grambling State

The Kent State University men's basketball team (5-3) returned to the M.A.C. Center Friday and earned a victory over the Grambling State Tigers (3-6), 86-57.

All-Mid-American Conference senior Jimmy Hall led four Golden Flashes in double figures against the Tigers. Hall scored 14 points and pulled down a team-best 13 rebounds. Over the last two games, Hall is a combined 17-for-23 from the floor, good for 74 percent.

Deon J. Edwin went 1 from 2 attempts from the field, missed on his only visit to the free throw line, finished with 2 points, picked up 4 rebounds and made one assist and one steal.

Leslee J. Smith & Bristol Flyers grounded

Bristol Flyers' struggles this season continued.

Making a trip to the Worcester Wolves, Leslee J. Smith and the Flyers fell behind early as Worcester built up a big lead in the first quarter and never looked back on their way to an 88-56 victory.

Hameed Ali led the way for Flyers with 17 points whilst Maurice Walker scored 21 for Wolves.

Smith finished with 8 points on 1 from 4 field goal attempts, 1 of 3 treys’ and 3 from 4 visits to the charity stripe. He also made 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block.
