Miss BVI 2018 to be crowned

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Residents of the Virgin Islands (VI) will this evening, Sunday, August 5, 2018, be graced with the presence of royalty when the Miss British Virgin Islands (BVI) 2018, is officially crowned at a Coronation ceremony.

The activity forms part of the VI's 2018 Emancipation celebrations, which was formally declared open on August 3, 2018, at the Festival Village.

This year, there was no Miss BVI Pageant, and as a result a decision was taken to crown one of 2017’s first runner-ups, Ms A’yana K. Phillips.

The incoming Queen—who will represent the Territory on the international stage—will be crowned at the Festival Village this evening.

Festival

The event features among the VI’s annual activities for the 2018 Emancipation celebrations; this year in observance of the Territory's 64TH Emancipation anniversary.

Thus far, the Ceremonial opening and Cultural Food Festival, Gospel Fest, and Prince and Princess Pageant as well as the Boat Races have taken place.

Minister for Education and Culture Minister, the Honourable Myron V. Walwyn (AL) at the ceremonial opening, described Emancipation 2018 as, “the perfect opportunity to restore our culture and demonstrate what emancipation really means to us.”

The opening was also attended by Acting Premier Dr Kedrick D. Pickering (R7).
