Mini models blaze UMi fashion runway
It was a Funky Friday that featured fashion for tots, teens, young adults and the mature adults. The afternoon event, which attracted a large crowd at the UMi store in Road Town location, saw models in the ‘Biker Chic Fashion. “Biker Chic is a hard and soft look that is really trendy and hot this summer. From there we went on to dare to be black but with a punch so we had coloured and the black. After that we took you to all whites, pure white but splashes of colours as well,” said an obviously excited Deborah O’Neal as she spoke with Virgin Islands News Online following the hectic afternoon of models on the runway.
It was an unusual show for the people of the Virgin Islands and they just couldn’t pass by the fashion show without stopping to get a glimpse of the little ones on the runway. “I wanted to make sure what I was seeing was for real,” said one woman who abruptly stopped her car to take a view. “UMi just know what to do to draw the market and that’s why I choose to come and shop here when I want something really fashionable,” added the woman.
The children, especially the little girls, took to the runway as if they were experts or seasoned models. “Well my ladies these little girls are definitely the runway models and Miss BVIs of tomorrow. Just look at them doing their thing so innocently and so positive,” said one woman who was among a group of people taking in the show.
“The kids wore a lot of glitters. In their beginning outfits they had a lot of colours. We also featured in our fashion show ‘Mini Me’ which is another kids store,” Ms O’Neal said.
Appearances were also made by Miss BVI 2012-2013 Ms Shari B. Y. de Castro and Miss BVI World Ms Kertis Cassandra Malone. The special guest appearance this time around was from Love and Hip Hop music, Ms Yandy Smith.
Asked about the specific message that was being promoted this year, Ms O’Neal responded, “Oh my gosh, its festival have fun.”
Customers had the usual treat of special discounts of 20% and more. Persons who would have spent $100 or more for the evening were given 25% discounts. These were offers that customers did not let slip by and it seemed there were not sufficient hands in the store immediately following the fashion show as person stormed inside to grab the outfits of their choice.
But according to Ms O’Neal, there are a lot more surprises for the festival season and customers are encouraged to take advantage of that as the store will be opened throughout the holidays.
