ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The largest elementary school in the Virgin Islands, the Althea Scatliffe Primary School, graduated some 99 pupils on Wednesday June 29, 2016.

At the Exit Ceremony held at Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall in Road Town, parents and guardians were cautioned to remain present in the lives of their children as they move on to secondary schooling.

Minister for Education and Culture Hon Myron V. Walwyn said these school aged children should not be left on their own.

“Young people have many competing influences that can alter their lives if they are not grounded and it is up to us to provide them with the tools necessary to remain on the right path to success,” he remarked.

The minister urged the graduating class to put God in the midst of the next phase of their lives as it will be a test of their faith, strength and courage, “but with God in the midst of it all, and the determination to succeed, you will once again be successful in your endeavors.”

He noted that the challenges that they have encountered throughout their primary school journey have ultimately prepared them for what lies ahead, and they should also build their knowledge and skills so that they can positively contribute to the territory.

First step

Principal of the Althea Scatliffe Primary School, Marieta C. Flax-Headley told the graduates to avoid getting stuck on this achievement as it is merely the first step of their educational journey.

“Do not get me wrong, everyone should celebrate their successes. Success builds confidence and gives one the motivation to continue on and confront new challenges, [but] do not make the mistake of thinking that this success is an end, but rather, see it as the ending of one phase and the beginning of another.”

The top ten students were: Varshanie Nanlall, Dave Persaud, Ziondi Todman, Enya Davis, Kelly Smith, Jahtivya Williams, Azeem Nibbs, T’Keira Lewis, R’Kaijah Maduro and Jaden Rambarose.

The top students in various subject areas were:

Mathematics, Science and Music- Dave Persuad

English and Physical Education- Ziondi Todman

Social Studies- Varshanie Nanlall

Spanish- Deyounce Lowenfield

That would have been the choice of the parents because in the package we had to a choice to purchase the folder. So sorry but i was not Ms. Headley's fault. That was on the parent who ddint opt to purchase the folder. I was totally shocked myself when i say it as part of the package.
