ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Jamaican Sprinter Michael Frater is to be the Guest of Honour at the BVI Athletics Association (BVIAA) 8th Annual Awards Gala at The Moorings on Thursday December 29, 2016.

Frater specialises in the 100 metres event and won a silver medal at the 2005 World Championships and a gold medal at the 2003 Pan American Games for the event.

He has also been successful as part of the Jamaican 4 × 100 metres relay team, setting the world record and Olympic record at the 2012 London Olympics and 2008 Beijing Olympics. He won gold in the relay at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and took silver in the 2002 edition.

The main purpose of the evening (6:30P.M. start) is to recognise those athletes who have achieved success during the past year and who have been nominated to various award categories, including Male and Female Athletes of the Year and Most Outstanding Performances.

In 2015, Chantel E. Malone and Eldred Henry both 3-peated as Senior Athletes of the Year, Trevia Gumbs and Kyron McMaster took home the gongs for Junior Athletes, whilst Beyonce Defreitas and Malaki A. Smith were Youth Athletes of the Year.

      The awards are for Athletes who excel in their field based on international, regional and home competition and are obvious if you have any interest in BVI's leading athletes
