ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Theresa Mary May has been appointed the UK's second female Prime Minister in a private audience with the Queen at which she was invited to form a Government.

Mrs May's elevation to the country's most senior political role, at the age of 59, completes a whirlwind rise which was triggered by the unexpected referendum vote for Brexit on June 23, 2016 which brought down predecessor David W.D. Cameron.

She "kissed hands" with the monarch in a simple procedure at Buckingham Palace which made her the 13th holder of the post of Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury during Elizabeth II's reign.

Mrs May arrived at the Palace by ministerial car with husband Philip, having set off from the House of Commons only after receiving the signal that predecessor David Cameron's resignation as PM had been accepted by the Queen and that he had advised the head of state to appoint the former Home Secretary in his place.

Mr Cameron was accompanied by wife Samantha and children Nancy, Elwen and Florence as he left 10 Downing Street for the last time as Prime Minister.

Standing with his family outside the famous black door, Mr Cameron said that he believed he was leaving the country "much stronger" and the economy "immeasurably stronger" after his six years in office.

In a clear bid to define the legacy that he will leave behind him, he spoke of his pride at achievements including reducing the deficit, legalising gay marriage, boosting employment, introducing the National Living Wage, increasing international aid spending and cutting waits for NHS treatment

And he paid tribute to Samantha, who he described as "the love of my life" who had "kept me vaguely sane".

Mr Cameron said he was "delighted that for the second time in British history the new Prime Minister will be a woman, and once again a Conservative".

And he said Mrs May would provide "strong and stable leadership in delivering the Conservative manifesto on which we were elected" and wished her well in negotiating "the best possible terms for Britain's exit from the European Union".

Mr Cameron concluded: "It has been the greatest honour of my life to serve our country as Prime Minister over these last six years and to serve as leader of my party over 11 years.

"And as we leave for the last time, my only wish is continued success for this great country that I love so very much." (Press Association)

Alvera or Deloris. None is fit. Why. If they can sit and watch all the wrong and their country going down and stay silent. They are not fit to lead. We need Strong, Courageous, fair, caring, God Fearing, Responsible and compassionate leader

This is quite an interesting comment. Reason why I say so is for instance, there have been several qualified women in our society that hold positions of power, yet when they make a decision that we dont like we are qucik to talk all sorts of disrespectful things about them. Im certainly no fan of this lady but I can tip my hat to her and her accomplishments over the years for the sector that she worked so hard for. Mrs Lorna Smith is one of the few Great Women of our society whom we take advantage of by showing lack of respect for. I guess its truly a mans world or something like that....

I personally don't want Lorna Smith. Give someone else a chance. She holds too many positions.

Maybe she'll tell Obama to stick his nose up his own a** and stay out of financial affairs abroad. Cameroon was
a real p*$$y letting Obama cow him and the territories around. Maybe even Switzerland will go back to normal.
Let people manage their own affairs. Not some creeps in Washington.

None other than a woman to provide a steady hand in troubling times! That's what the BVI needs also, a serious mature women for PM to right size the ship, who will listen to the people and above all else puts country first. There are good men in the BVI so please don't take this as a knock against you. The problem is that the good intelligent ones don't want to be bothered with politics and the ones who want in have huge ego problems and are all about winning and having their way.

I am looking forward to her being a role model for women every where of all races. View is a a case study in leadership. I have always looked at Angela Merckle that way. I don't need an effective leader/mentor to be my color as I am looking at leadership style and effectiveness; how much they "lean in" or turn things on their head for the greater good. As one reporter on NPR said this morning and it was a man...May was MATURE one that surfaced to the top amongst all the immature boys.

Today women are moving forward. In my opinion, they are now the best leaders. Women are more aggressive since they strive to get things done.
