ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Yesterday October 8, 2014 when Magistrate Dr. Velon L. John announced guilty verdicts for Police Officers Marvin Robinson and Wendell ‘Food’ Anthony who were charged for beating 18 year old Brandon George back in 2012 and one relative said that the battle for justice has only just begun.

The teen never had the opportunity to stand in the court of justice in his defense in the matter since he died in a subsequent motorcycle accident but a parent and others did stand in his defense with the hope of justice being served.

“I am betting you that this guilty verdict is only the first chapter in this whole episode but we know that Brandon is a little more comfortable in his grave today because the Magistrate wasn’t easy on them two (the Police Officers) and also the others who lied for them,” the relative went on to say.

The relative said that they are eager to see to what extent the two guilty officers would be sentenced and other possible actions that can be taken to flush out the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) of corrupt officers.

“We have a few weeks to wait and see. Will they be sent to Balsum Ghut? I doubt. Who deep into their pockets will they be made to go to pay for what they did to our boy Brandy,” said the relative who further went on to express that the family is quite sure that the officers will attempt to appeal the decisions of Magistrate Dr John. “They are not from here, they were interdicted but will they be deported back to their county? We don’t know,” added the relative.

As it relates to the testimonies given by two other police officers of the RVIPF who were called by the defence, the Magistrate was not convinced that they told the truth and referred to their testimonies as being well rehearsed especially as they had sufficient time to do so perfectly. Those Police Officers were Smyra Brewley, Job Trumpet and Jacqueline Williams who all testified that they were at the scene.

“We are looking to see how that Commissioner of Police is going to deal with that because they went and lied, they lied, lied, lied and as officers of the law they broke their code of conduct and for that they should be flushed out of the Police Force if they still in there,” said another relative who was becoming very emotional.

“Brandon was who he was, nothing but a teen out there. When they were to help guide and protect him they beat him, lash him in his head with helmet and gun that’s what they did to a teen, two strong police officers that’s what they did to my nephew and to see people who weren’t even there, Police Officers to mind you, who weren’t even there going in the court to say they were there eats the guts out of me. This is why we are saying that this is far from over, Brandon is not around to see and hear all of this but we still feel his pains,” declared the relative.

Sentencing of the two police officers is set for October 30, 2014.

The police officers who 'rehearsed' their testimonies for their comrades would they be so willing to have persons lie if the tables were turned ad their child suffered the same fate by supposed officers of the law? Come on man, don't LIE, you have children too don't support wrongness.

How do we know the police lied? That is only the magistrate's opinion.

I found it strange the Magistrate in his wisdom would say that the evidence of the officers were "rehearsed". The last time I checked it was called corroboration meaning that if the prosecution was unable to peel away at the officers evidence to prove they were lying then the Magistrate should have accepted the officers evidence as credible without using his opinion. There's no problem using his opinion as it relates to demeanor but if the prosecution cannot proved the officers were lying then the case should have been dealt with solely on the evidence. We heard nothing about the inconsistencies of the prosecution case so I also assumed they the prosecution was perfect and air tight which I certainly beg to differ. Just my opinion.

...and THAT's why Law School takes so long to finish... being so ill-informed about court procedure should preclude you from expressing such nonsense. Fortunately for you (sadly, for the rest of us), the internet lets anybody make a fool of themselves by showing their ignorance. For future reference: finding something "strange" should have you rushing to inform yourself, not rushing to spout the first foolish thing that comes to mind. The demeanour of a witness is crucial in a court case - the fact a magistrate felt it necessary to decry the poor quality of certain officers evidence in open court ("in mortal combat with the truth") is an indication of how dishonest they sounded. Nothing strange about it. At all. The reference to "rehearsed" was not about corroboration, it was a deliberate slight at what was clearly evidence requiring strong cross-examination. The case was proved solely on the evidence - all of it , including the (allegedly) made-up stuff .... You're welcome.

@ strange. It seems to me that you feel your brain big but I will advise you to check the criminal code and read what it says about corroboration then come back and comment because the two words are completely different on meaning.

Those offices(police officers and crossing guard) woe be unto you, professing Christianity and committing such a crime under oath and in the sight of men! Lord help. I encourage the commission to dismiss them form the service forthwith. They are obviously not upholding the law and safe guarding the citizens and visitors of this land.
I advised you all to put yourself in that mom's shoe and just try to imagine experiencing what she is experiencing for a half day and see if that's what you would want for yourselves. Your all to wicked, abusing the little power given to you all. Stop! Stop! Go babka and refresh your minds of your job descriptions and rethink what is your purpose in your capacity of work.

the police administration failed these officers, they were thrown to the sharks to be devoured. I hope the family of the young man sue the commissioner. it shows how weak the administration is no chojanes or b***s.
