GREENLAND, Tortola, VI– Action in the LIME Superfast Twenty 20 Cricket League at the Greenland Playfield on Sunday April 5, 2015 saw Grenada romp to a thumping 161 run victory over The Earl Tree Shotters to secure top spot in Group 2 and progress into the Super 8’s.

Sent in to bat by The Earl Tree Shotters, Grenada saw both openers back in the sheds before reaching double figures and were in further trouble when Rodney Marryshow fell for 38 to leave Grenada on 65-4.

By the half way stage, though, they had recovered to reach 94-4 as Raymond Charles and Jason Thomas began a dogged recovery. As the pair began to dominate, the 100 came up in the 11th over and 19 runs were scored from the 12th. Thomas fell in the 13th for 14; LBW to Ortis James, but 18 runs came from the next over as Irwin Lewis began to free his arms.

Charles was athletically snapped up by Bryan Daley at short extra cover, off the bowling of Franklyn James, who finished with 4-32, for a well paced 41 (five 4’s and two 6’s). Lewis soon followed for 40, which included five 6’s, Emmanuel Charles was cleaned bowled in the 18th by Rudolph Davis for 11 and Trent Belfon carted back to back sixes to finish the same over, the 200 came up in the 19th and Grenada finally reached 215 for 8.

Pace too hot to handle!

In reply, Earl Tree found the pace of Lewis and Belfon hard to handle, but seemingly weathered the early storm in reaching 25-1.

However, Marryshow was then introduced and turned the game upside down with a devastating spell of medium pace bowling.

In the 5th over he castled Sessie Ells and had Emerald Prince caught behind square by the diving Kitason Francis, to make it 26-3. From the first ball of the 6th over, Phillip Jacobs was run out backing up too far, but Kevin Thompson brought the fans back to life with consecutive boundaries to conclude the over.

Davis, then increased the fervour with a booming straight six to start Marryshow’s next over, before becoming his third victim, caught from the next ball, to make it 41-5. Daley retired hurt during the next over; Marryshow picked up his fourth wicket, Thompson LBW, in the 9th over and bowled Kevin Headley two balls later. The Shotters reached 50 with an extraordinary square cut for four by Ortis James, which ended with the player doing the splits, at the end of the 9th over, but Marryshow returned to pick up his 6th wicket in the 11th over and then finished off the Shotters with a double wicket maiden as the chase ended 54 all out.

Marryshow ended with a tournament best of 7 for 14 from 4 overs.

There was some solace for the Shotters, though, as despite defeat they too progress into the Super 8’s as the group runner up.
