Mark H. Vanterpool recants resignation, ask to be sworn into HoA
Invalid Resignation
In a statement released today on his Facebook page, Mr Vanterpool said his resignation on March 5, 2019, would be considered invalid since it was addressed to the Speaker of the HoA, and at that time, there was no speaker.
He said the Clerk indicated in a letter dated March 13, 2019, that he should write directly to the Speaker of the House, Mr Julian Willock who subsequently indicated that the letter was incorrectly addressed—according to Mr Vanterpool—however, the resignation has since been accepted under the Virgin Islands Constitution 2007, as per sec 67 (3) (a) which states,“An elected member of the House of Assembly shall also vacate his or her seat in the House-- (a) if he or she resigns it by writing under his or her hand addressed to the speaker,” paving the way for By-Elections.
Mr Vanterpool said that since he did not write to the speaker originally, he is therefore seeking to be sworn into the HoA at the earliest, as the representative for the Fourth Electoral District.
Huge Responsibility
“I have listened to the many concerns expressed by the people of this territory about my decision, these concerns have weighed heavily on my mind day in and day out. I recognize the huge responsibility and trust that you the people of the Fourth District, in particular, have placed in me.”
Mr Vanterpool further apologized to the people of his district for any inconvenience and confusion caused as a result of his sudden resignation.

"He said the Clerk indicated in a letter dated March 13, 2019, that he should write directly to the Speaker of the House, Mr Julian Willock who subsequently indicated that the letter was incorrectly addressed" Thus the letter was address to the Clerk not the speaker...there was no speaker at the time Hon. Mark Resign..
"the Clerk of the House of Assembly refused the letter"
SOMETHING NEED TO DONE SO THIS NONSNSE WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN.
MR VANTERPOOL YOU THINK WHAT YOU DID IS RIGHT TO THE VOTERS. THE GOVERNOR HAVE TO LOOK INTO THIS WE NEED PEOPLE WHO ARE DEDICATED TO THIS PLACE AND NOT FOR THEIR OWN GAIN.
He must be think the people are puppets on his string. Come on with this bulls***! U running...u not running, you elected...u don't want to represent, you wanted out...now you want it! For a Public Figure, you acting like a real MooMoo! The people ain't got time for you and your emotional escapades.

In the public interest, We the People of the Virgin Islands hereby accept your resignation and wish you well as you transition to deal with your ‘personal matters’ that nescessitated your resignation from serving us in the House of Assembly.

The People of the Virgin Islands
Mark is a cool cat and it is beneficial to have someone of his experience and standing in the opposition. I hope his personal issues have been resolved.
The outside world is laughing at us.
I'm so ashamed right now.
Stay strong..
Pay Attention Folks!
He gonna represent The 4 th Still. The Governor have the Last Say. Please post My comment. Your Faithfully The Reaper
The people of certain sections of the 4th have been cast aside by the rep for too many years. All we ask is for PROPER representation for ALL of the residents of the 4th, for a decent looking district and a better smelling capital.
If we can't get it, then the rep needs to go siddung and let someone who is willing and able take over. His credibility leaves much to be desired.
Speaker has no say. It’s up to the Governor
The voters in the Fourth District are taken for a ride. The letter of resignation must be examined and if there is any technicality, it must be verified by the Hon. Attorney General and let the buck stop where it should.
It’s up to the Governor not the Speaker
