ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI: As the Election for Governor of the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) winds down, incumbent Governor Kenneth E. Mapp and his Lieutenant Governor Osbert E. Potter had a successful local ‘Meet and Greet’ event last evening Friday, November 2, 2018.

The function took place at Maria’s by the Sea in Road Town where scores of well-wishers, persons living in the Virgin Islands (VI) who can vote in the USVI, local politicians and political aspirants showed up to greet both Governor Mapp and Lieutenant Potter.

On the side-lines of the ‘Meet and Greet’ there was also a meeting with a VI businessman about possible investment opportunities in the USVI recovery projects. Speakers at the event included Hon Alvera Maduro-Caines (R6), political aspirant Julian Willock, and the USVI Governor and Lieutenant Governor.

Mapp-Potter got VI supporters

Hon Maduro-Caines told the crowd that although she cannot vote in the USVI she will do her part “to encourage all my friends and family living there to vote for the Mapp-Potter team”.

Mr Willock whose company, Advance Marketing and Professional Services helped organized the function said, “I remember immediately after Hurricane Irma and Maria when we were not hearing much on our side from the government, we all looked forward to Governor Mapp’s daily press conferences to give us hope and assurances… that is the kind of leadership we needed.”

Lt Governor Potter reminded persons there of his roots in Tortola where he was born and promised after the election victory he will “spend more time visiting the British Virgin Islands.”

Governor Mapp spoke passionately about his many accomplishments as Governor and the work that he has been doing for the past four years. He made reference to some social media postings about his stewardship of the United States Territory, before listing many solid accomplishments in the areas of health, education, employment and public infrastructure under his watch.

Birthday cake for Mapp

Governor Mapp also turned 63 years-old yesterday November 2, 2018, and a cake was prepared for him at the ‘Meet and Greet’, while persons there sang ‘Happy Birthday’.  He also again announced on the behalf of his Government, condolences on the passing of VI Legislator Hon Delores Lettsome-Christopher (R5) and deeply regretted that he nor Mr Potter would be able to stay for the funeral.

Mr Mapp departed the same evening for another event on St. Croix, USVI, while his running mate joins him this morning Saturday, November 3, 2018. The election for Governor is on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, and will also include the Senate and other persons for elected office.
