ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards had to brace herself, sometimes shading emotion, when she asked Michael Lloyd, a 57 year old man who had allegedly threatened to kill a man and eat him raw, what he had to say before she imposed sentence on him on November 27, 2013.

Lloyd was charged for the use of indecent language, using threatening language, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

During the trial, the court heard that Mr Rhymer was scared to sleep in fear that his water supply might have been poisoned or his car may have blown up with him in it. This was because of the alleged threat that he had to deal with from Mr Lloyd.

The magistrate, in considering that the defendant had claimed to be broke and taken advantage of, imposed a fine totaling $500 on Lloyd. Not pleased with the fine, Mr Lloyd constantly uttered in open court, “Man take my money from me and you making me pay him more money…. My grandmother use to say, today for you tomorrow for me.”

On the charges of use of indecent language and use of threatening language, Mr Lloyd was fined $250 each or in default 30 days in prison on each charge. For the offences of resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer, he was placed on a two-year bond to keep the peace and to be of good behaviour. If in default, he would have to spend 30 days in prison.

The magistrate asked Lloyd how much time he needed to pay the fine but was met with a long explanation. She then informed the defendant that she had decided on a time frame of two months. Lloyd again complained of being totally broke and said he would have to sell his truck, would have to put his garden vegetable in a wheel barrow and wheel it from one end of the island to town to sell.

He was also unable to immediately say if he could have found someone to sign the surety on his behalf. “I’ll have to go search. … man taking your money and you making me got to pay him more…You just like all of them…,” he continued to lament.

Why she sending him to harass someone now to pay his fine? Not for nothing, If Mr. Rhymer owe him money, give it to him to get rid of the problem and If I were the complainant I would steer clear of him as much as possible, but it ain't easy when crazy people keep coming into your property. You might have to eat he before he can eat you.
