some high needed to be implemented for texting while driving.

Anytime a vehicle slows up in front of you or make sudden stop its always the phone.

let the idle police get to work.

I pray that the person /persons involve will be ok... let's not jump to the conclusion that the driver was txt or on the phone... persons crossing the road need to take extra care if they chose to cross over on a busy high way.....I use the road every day and I see persons crossing over without looking or waiting just because they are on the zebra crossover... they feel it is their right to cross immediately... remember people motorcars can not feel people do....

I totally agree with you, the other day I was coming down the high way and this ignorant pedestrian crossing the road as if I'm obligated to stop for him to cross on the damn high way.. And if I were to hit him for his ignorance I'd be in expense bcaz I'm wrong

And pedestrians don't respect and are not afraid of cars. They don't use the crosswalks and decide to cross wherever is more convenient for them. Sometimes 2 feet away! They throw themselves in front of moving vehicles expecting drivers to stop immediately. In many countries citizens get fined for jay walking.
I might add that some crosswalks are in inapropriate junctions and many more are needed, not only in Road Town, but all around.

I'll say the obvious, there is no "cross walk" near that business establishment??
Although very unfortunate, and I wish the pedestrian a speedy recovery; they have been continually warned about just crossing these road ways in that manner? I think we need to get serious about this little place we live and dwell. RULES NEED TO BE ENFORCED AND ADHERED TO FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL!

What??? How about saying pedestrians should take the necessary precautions when crossing the street rather than playing cat & mouse with the traffic & they in return keep an eye out for persons crossing. When crossing the street you can't just strut like you own the roads, always make sure you make eye contact with the driver showing your intention to cross & they then indicate to you it's ok to cross. You in turn acknowledge them (I do this by raising my hand something I do all the time) & hurry across the road. Driver & pedestrian happy!

I feel so sorry for you. Right hand vehicles are the best for BVI roads. You sound bitter about right hand drives. they do not take loans for it. They pay cash. Buy smart! and besides there are no pedestrian crossings in that area.

Happy Friday to your salty self.

To Mr LHD, you perhaps should re think your statement. You are driving your expensive American made car on the left side of the road. Hence, your passenger exits into vehicular traffic. Check again which side the Americans drive on with their American cars. BTW, speedy recovery to the victim. LHD or RHD, pay attention to the road.

I drive both right and left hand drive vehicles. You obviously do not know about cars and the traffic. For countries who drive on the right like Continental USA,left hand drive vehicles are better suited for there. Countries who drive on the left like UK,Japan etc, right hand drive vehicles are better suited for them.

I dont feel sorry for the Pedestrian ATALL ..... Crucify my comment if u want .. but I HAVE witness and came to close calls with pedestrians BOLTING out and not ensuring that the oncoming traffic acknowledges them to begin with !!! Me ?? I make sure lane 1 see me.. then i will step out-- and I'm NOT completing my cross until lane 2 see and acknowledge me as well !!! .... Sorry but it was at his demise !!!!!

I am of the opinion that pedestrians need to be more responsible on the highways. Crossing the street at anytime and at any place regardless of oncoming traffic not only puts them at risk but the drivers as well. When accidents like this occurs, the driver of the vehicle seemingly is accused of "bad" driving via these blogs. It's time we have these pedestrians bare some sort of liability for the actions as well. We should also bring the traffic authorities into accountability for the lack of properly placed crosswalks in the area from the Purcell Roundabout to the Delta gas station.

Listen that high way is famous for high risk crossing for predations catching ride.
It's a danger zone. No Taxi pull off, everyone speeding to get to work, no over pass, limited gaps in the traffic to let people pass. Cars slamming each other because of sudden stops, to give someone a ride.
    It’s a mess.

I am not at all surprised that this would happen. Neither the police nor the pedestrians nor some drivers have any respect for the proper use of the road networks on these islands. Everyone just do as they please without any regard for safety. It has become a free for all like a lawless society. There is need for more pedestrian crosswalks is Sir Francis Walter highway in particularly in the area of Purcell by One Mart where there is no crosswalk and people just indiscriminately cross the lanes without paying attention to ongoing traffic. A friend of mine was forced to break suddenly a few weeks ago right at that spot to prevent a gentleman who forced his way through the traffic from being knocked down. What stupidity on the part of this pedestrian. This cost the driver thousands of dollars in damages plus the cost and inconvenience of not having a transport to drive for one month. The traffic department and police need to do better to minimise those tragedies from happening. They need to start giving tickets for people who use their phones while driving without hands free devices. Many an accident has been caused by that and usually it's the innocent party who has to pay for damages done such as in the case where someone is hit from the back. More resources need to be spent on marking the roads and having pedestrian crossing in places where they like to cross, have to cross and where there are none.

I hope the pedestrian is OK. It is unfortunate that some people bring it on themselves by crossing where traffic will be the fastest. But add a new car show room and encourage more cars, there will be more accidents like the child being hit at the round about. It will happen again unless law enforcement tickets violators and creates a campaign to publicize compliance with the law for everyone's safety.
