Man shot dead on STT on New Year’s Day

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St Thomas, USVI— A man was shot dead in St Thomas, US Virgin Islands on New Year’s Day, [US] Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman has announced.

The victim, identified as Tahein Thomas (his age was not included in the VIPD’s press release), succumbed to a single gunshot wound following reports of gunfire in the area of Bovoni.

According to Ms Freeman, at about 12:12 A.M. on Sunday January 1, 2016, a concerned citizen called the 911 emergency call center to report the sound of gunfire and a possible gunshot victim in Bovoni. But by the time the VIPD’s Homicide Task Force made it to the crime scene, Mr Thomas was already transported to the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital by private vehicle, according to police.

The victim died at 8:55 A.M. the same day.

VIPD said on Sunday that the case was under investigation, and asked the community to share information that may lead to the arrest of perpetrators by contacting the Homicide Task Force at 340-774-2211 ext. 5569, 340-714-983, 911 or Crime Stoppers USVI, where your tip may net you a payday.
