Man shot dead near vegetable market in USVI

FREDERIKSTED, St Croix, USVI — A man was shot several times in the upper body on Sunday night, May 27, 2018 in Frederiksted, [US] Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced.

The victim, a Hispanic male, was identified by next of kin as 39-year-old Johnny Silverio De La Cruz, according to Mr Dratte.

Police say the incident occurred at around 6:40 P.M. on Sunday. The 911 emergency call center was notified about the incident — which occurred on Queen Street in the vicinity of the Vegetable Market in Frederiksted — at 6:40 P.M.

Upon investigators’ arrival to the scene, Mr De La Cruz was discovered lifeless on the ground. Medical attendants on the scene were unable to resuscitate the individual, according to Mr Dratte.

The VIPD said the incident remains under active investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CBI). CBI is asking the community for any information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrator or perpetrators, by calling 340-778-2211.     And I saw a comment on here that if we go independant we should join them...Not discrimatory statement here but they have their own problems to solve we dont need that spilling over here
