Man jailed on St Croix, USVI after striking 2 dogs with machete

FREDERIKSTED, St Croix, USVI — Police on St Croix, US Virgin Islands (USVI) on Wednesday April 6, 2016 arrested Ala Zatar on charges of animal abuse, [US] Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman announced.

According to Ms Freeman, an arrest warrant was executed to the rear of Bienvenidos Mini Mart where Mr Zatar was taken into custody and charged with two counts of animal abuse in the first degree and one count of disturbance of the peace.

Ms Freeman said that on Friday, January 01, Mr Zatar struck two dogs with a machete causing severe injuries about the dogs’ bodies. The owner of the dogs positively identified Mr Zatar as the individual who struck his animals with a machete in his presence.

Mr Zatar was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections facility in Golden Grove pending his advise-of-rights hearing, after he failed to make bail of $15,000.
