ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A man was rushed to Peebles Hospital following a 3-vehicle accident in Road Town on February 28, 2013.

The accident reportedly occurred around 10 A.M. on the James Walter Francis Drive dual carriageway, in the vicinity of the traffic lights at Wickham's Cay II.

The injured man was reportedly an occupant of motor vehicle PF 120, a pickup truck.

Virgin Islands News Online was informed by one of the drivers of the vehicles involved in the accident that the pick-up was hit from behind as it stopped abruptly due to another vehicle in front of it stopping suddenly to let off a passenger.

The pick-up then reportedly ended up hitting the vehicle immediately infront of it. The injured man was an occupant of the pick-up.

It is not clear what is the extent of his injuries.

The driver of the Toyota Tacoma (PO 191) told this news site that he applied his breaks in the hope of averting any major accident but couldn't do anything more as he ended up slamming into the pick-up. "These people always with this thing of stopping suddenly on the main road to pick up people and drop off." The man said there was one other person in the Toyota Tacoma but they both escaped without injury.

Virgin Islands News Online is working on more details to this story.

Everyday they doing this on the highway. switching lanes without indicating and just stopping brap to pick up or let off people. They will cause deaths soon mark my words. The taxis are the biggest culprits and what is worst is i have seen parents dropping their kids off on the busy highway to cross 2-3lanes to get over. Kids as young as 5-6yrs old. Laziness.

Here is the only place people can stop drop off and pick up passengers on a highway. It is very upsetting to see this kind of behaviour on the road, it must be stopped some how or the other. No indicating to turn, stopping abruptly without indicating.....just rediculus.....

An accident is an event that could not be avoided.

This is careless. 1) stopping suddenly is carelessness. 2) Being too close to the car in front is carelessness 3) dropping off a passenger in an unsafe place or in an unsafe manner is carelessness.

How is this an accident? We need the police to step up their game more on these people that dont understand how to drive

    Hope everyone is ok though.

So last year when these accidents were reported we had all the nonsense comments that it was because it was a leap year, so what do these people think the reason is now??? SMH

When driving on the highway, even if you drive the prescribed distance from the vehicle infront, if they slam the brakes suddenly without warning while you may be able to slow down, you can still hit the vehicle.

Then leave a safe distance between yourself and the car infront and pay attention!

People stopping in the middle of the road and School buses with the door on the wrong side.........it is a miracle that more people are not killed.

Police need to stop putting up traffic stops during rush hour and concentrate on making the roads safer.
