Man found with 'Glock' given ultimatum to find legal rep.
The Fat Hogs Bay resident who is also a truck driver, was allegedly found with a Glock 40 pistol in a vehicle he was driving in February 2011.
Moorehead once again told the court that the birth of his child caused him to be unable to afford legal representation at the time and he was no longer retaining the services of Mr Herbert McKenzie. Attorney McKenzie, who was in court for other matters at the time, explained that he had parted ways with the accused a long time ago.
The defendant is facing charges of carrying an unlicensed firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. He had denied knowledge of the firearm in a previous court appearance.
Moorehead landed in hot water after a vehicle search conducted by Police in the wee hours of Tuesday February 8, 2011 resulted in the alleged firearm seizure.
According to Police records, while on patrol around 2:45 a.m, officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Task Force followed a vehicle from the Walter Francis Drive into the Free Bottom area.
Upon arrival at a local nightclub, both the vehicle and driver were reportedly searched during which the lawmen allegedly discovered a Glock 40 pistol and what what was suspected to be cannabis.
Moorehead was allegedly the lone occupant of the vehicle.
Magistrate Tamia Richards noted that it was the second occasion Moorehead appeared before the court and complained of being unable to afford legal representation. Richards then asked the prosecution to submit all files to him so that he could prepare his defence in the event that he was unable to secure legal representation.
The accused is on $20,000 bail.
