ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A man was on Wednesday, January 29, 2020, fined $650 at the Magistrate’s Court in John's Hole, Tortola, for having three grams of cannabis.

Jaheem Chiddick was caught with the drug that has a street value of $30 on January 24, 2018, and was charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug.

He pleaded guilty in a previous court appearance and is facing up to two months at Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP) if he does not pay the fine by February 28, 2020.

His previous court appearance might have lead to the court's decision. I THINK you're not supposed to engage in anything of that nature that can make you end back up before the court. But 3.5g to me isn't even something you can sell and make a profit off of. It's just his personal meds. So it's weird either way.

Ok. Justice delayed is justice denied. Jaheem Chiddick was caught on January 24, 2018 and has finally been adjudicated on January 29, 2020, two years later. True, possession and use of marijuana is against the law but the long two year wait for a small amount of it should be punishment enough. Why the hell took so long try Mr. Chiddick for a minor case?

    These magistrates are running amok!

    Real talk.

This type of thing needs to be put before a panel of peers to recommend the sentence.

Abuse of power, did the magistrates not undergo training on this matter recently?

Lets here it people what is the fine for 3 grams of weed?
