Man allegedly refuses to pay for car damage after matter reported to police
The allegations are that on August 10, 2015 on the Sand Box Lane Public Road in Huntum's Ghut, Martinez drove motor vehicle PV 25706 without due care and attention.
Speaking through an interpreter, Martinez pleaded guilty to the charge against him.
The court heard that the virtual complainant was driving motor vehicle PX 56 when he was struck allegedly by the defendant.
A.report was made to the Road Town Police Station and Officers from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force visited the scene and spoke with both drivers, informing them of the pending court procedures.
According to the Prosecution, the defendant said, "I was coming down and he hit me. I tell he go fix it and he call Police. As he call Police I say I no fix it."
The accident resulted to damage of the right side mirror of the virtual complainant's vehicle. The defendant's vehicle also sustained damage to a side mirror which he repaired at a cost of $71.
Martinez was found guilty by the Magistrate and fined $200 to be paid today or he faces seven days imprisonment.
He also paid the sum of $100 in compensation- $80 for the cost of a mirror for the virtual complainant and $20 for a police report that was requested.
