Man, 22, shot to death in STT, USVI

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St Thomas, USVI- A young man was found lying face down with multiple gunshot wounds about his body in the wee hours of Thursday morning, April 28, 2016 in St Thomas, US Virgin Islands, V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman announced.

The call notifying the 911 emergency call center about the incident — which occurred in the Kirwain Terrace Housing Community — came in at around 1:26 a.m.

Upon arrival on the scene, police saw the victim lying in the same position that was reported, his body riddled with gunshots. Emergency medical technicians who reported to the scene detected no signs of life, and the victim — identified as 22-year-old Javan Benjamin of Estate Hope — was declared dead.

Ms. Freeman said the crime scene was processed by the V.I.P.D.’s Forensic Unit and the Homicide Task Force along with the Patrol Unit, who canvased the area for any further information or witnesses to the crime.

This case is presently under investigation by the Homicide Task Force, Ms. Freeman said. The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Task Force at (340) 774-2211 extensions 5617 and 5554. They can also call 911, Crime Stoppers VI, the Commissioner’s Office at (340)715-5506 and the Chief’s Office at (340)715-5548.
