ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Residents could not resist the huge discounts offered by store owners on Flemming Street yesterday, Saturday December 17, 2011 as clothing, jewellery and shoes went like “hot cakes”.

Dubbed “Christmas on Flemming Street”, tents set up by respective owners saw a constant flow of shoppers throughout the day. The event began around 10 am and wrapped up at mid-night.

Virgin Islands News Online spoke with Belal Tarabay, owner of The Royal Shop, who looked pleased with the pace his racks were reducing. “Sales have been pretty good, especially with the female clothing,” he added.

According to him, the Flemming Street owners on an annual basis would slash prices on items, allowing shoppers to shop to their hearts content.

One female shopper, who wished to remain anonymous, told this news agency that she purchased about $50 worth of clothing, which on any given day would have cost close to $300.
