SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in Puerto Rico was shut down after the shock finding in its Terminal B security checking area.

The person carrying the suspect bomb was quickly arrested following the discovery at the Carribean island airport at 11.30 A.M. local time.

Nelman Nevares, chief operating officer of Aerostar, the company that manages the airport, confirmed the incident.

He said: "The central security point was closed in response to a possible explosive article, inside a passenger's hand luggage."

He added that the finding sparced emergency security protocol and the FBI, the police and the explosives division of the police were called.

"The central terminal (B) was evacuated, the spaces were closed off the counters," Nevares said, adding that the flights affected included American Airlines and Southwest Airlines.

An hour after the discovery the airport was reopened and operations resumed.

"We are now recovering normalcy. There is a rather heavy operation, but we are regaining order. Already the authorities gave us the OK to re-operate normally," Nevares added.

A spokesman for Puerto Rico police said: "The apparent explosive device has been removed for analysis and they normalize operations at the Luis Munoz Marin airport."
