SOPHIE BAY HILL, Tortola, VI- A major accident was narrowly averted when traffic was brought to a screeching halt at Sophie Hill at about 4:50 P.M. on March 1, 2013 when a truck (PM 5319) laden with sacks of ‘Nikiki’ bottles of water apparently suffered a flat of its right rear tyre and started descending the hill in the reverse.

It was chaos as a long line of vehicles heading in the direction of East End scrambled to hit the reverse. It also appeared that the truck was on the verge of toppling.

As the driver and another person who was in the passenger side of the truck apparently noticed reporters capturing photos of the incident, they quickly abandoned the vehicle.

Several ranks of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) were on their way out of East End and were caught between the incident. The police were at the time escorting the team of jurors, Justice Albert Redhead, Murder accused Yan Edwards and Allen Baptiste and their attorneys, among other court officials from a crime scene inspection.

Police ranks quickly went into action and attempted to control the traffic by which time the occupants of the truck had disappeared.

Some persons place more weight on vehicles than they were made to actually carry; not saying this has anything to do with this incident –glad no one was injured
