ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Police are investigating a break-in at a jewellery store on Main Street.

The Jewellery Box was reportedly broken into on the night of October 30, 2012, however, according to sources nothing was taken.

The proprietor of the business entity declined to comment but when Virgin Islands News Online visited the scene investigators could be seen dusting for clues. A display glass case was also broken and the place appeared ransacked.

Reliable sources told this new site that the business does not keep precious jewellery on site but rather at a much more secure location.

It was also reported that it is not the first time that the business has been preyed upon.

Virgin Islands News Online will bring you more information as it comes in.

My vehilcle was broken into last Friday in Town by smashing the drivers window. The police were called and turned up and this is what happened:
Officer: peers into the car and asks is anything missing?
    Victim: Yes, (list items)
Officer: We cant really do anything, look where you parked etc should I go on?

It is a terrible thing for this to happen and there is no excuse for this kind of lawlessness. Let me suggest what I do:

I keep nothing of value in my car, I leave my door unlocked, that way if any theif wants to get into my car to steal nothing at least i dont have to pay for a new window.

guess the silver lining after a massive spree of unsolved homicides and armed robberies might be (fingre cross) that the crime rate may go down! But cars and shops are still being broken into all the time, homes burgled and people are much more wary than they used to me, where are the UK police officers?

Well I think the best trick that the officers can use is to disguise themselves with Jewelery and basically just dress regular. Bait them serial thieves and I am sure you will catch a few. Trick or Treat....just saying

I think what is needed for these Main Street stores are those metal-like sliding doors that actually are hinged on the inside after opening up the main door.

These types of saftey apparatus are prominently displayed in alot of the stores on St. Thomas especially in areas such as the Wheatley Shopping Center.

A simple padlock on any store on Main Street is not going to work. An iron bar criss-crossed over all areas of perceived entrances would be a much better shot at security.

It's unfortunate that our law enforcement agencies have not been a bit more assisting in helping Main Street merchants in the varied areas of better security enhancements for their businesses.

Let's hope that this robbery would help to galvanize their actions into better solving the security issues of the downtown shopping district!

The thoughts expressed here are the thoughts of many of us bloggers and people of the BVI. For too long we have been suffering from the scourge of crime and its because the criminals are not afraid of being caught; if ever caught

I do realize that the police men and women cannot protect every Citizen, or stop every thief or break in, however they can get the Police Department to "Up their Game". Criminality cannot be eradicated, but it can be controlled and reduced!
