ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- On Wednesday June 1, 2016 Magistrate Ayana Baptiste-DaBreo released a cache of $30,000 which was seized along with cocaine in Antigua in 2011 in a trafficking case against Virgin Islander Luke Roy Joseph and one other man, also of the Virgin Islands.

The Magistrate made the decision following an application by the Crown in the Magistrate's Court. According to the Prosecution, the matter was no longer in the court's jurisdiction and noted that the Crown had no further interest in the matter and therefore no need for the money to be held further.

Joseph was sentenced to six years imprisonment on the island of Antigua in March 2013 for possession of cocaine and intent to supply same. He was also fined $300,000.

On February 5, 2011 both men were arrested and charged after the vessel they were sailing in was stopped by the Coast Guard.

The boat was searched and 169.65 kilos of cocaine was discovered. The cache is said to have a street value of over $2 million.
