PONCE, Puerto Rico - An earthquake measuring magnitude 5.5 on the Richter scale has rocked Ponce, Puerto Rico, damaging building and scattering debris across city streets.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake is one of several which have impacted the area today, May 2, 2020.

While no tsunami advisory has been issued, Ponce Mayor Maria E. Melendez said several buildings were damaged.

The temblor hit as Puerto Ricans are currently under a nearly two-month lockdown as authorities take action to curb the spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Mayor via a twitter update said officials are assessing the quake's effects and checking on citizens, "We will keep doing rounds all across the city to asses the structural damage in order to save lives in danger."

Aftershocks hit neighbouring towns

While promising to posted updates on the current situation, she urged citizens to avoid going to the city centre, until authorities are certain that everyone is safe.

A number of aftershocks were also recorded in the 90 minutes following the initial event according to the US Geological Survey.

Shaken were the towns of Guánica and Guayanilla, where hundreds of homes were damaged or destroyed in January's 6.4 magnitude earthquake, which killed one person.

Praying no one was injured. This country just can’t seem to catch a break.

Puerto Rico was one of the first to respond in our time of need after hurricane Irma. They went all out to help us. Two weeks later hurricane Maria did to them what Irma did to us, and we were not in a position to reciprocate aid to them because we were still reeling from Irma. They have been hit often from the earthquakes and I am so glad to hear there were no deaths this time. Our earth is going through changes that we have never seen in our lifetime, but it has happened many times in the history before us. This pandemic is another one of many plagues and I hope the human race can survive this time. The VIRUS was made in China in a lab, out of greed, to control another Africa's resources, but it backfired and got out of control, and is now destroying the entire planet. Now France is in Africa using them again as guinea pigs to find a cure, with their murderous vaccines that they are forcing Africans to take, to see the results. For those who had a hand in this horrible murderous VIRUS, I will say "Your days as well as your offspring, will suffer greatly because of this". Yes, this includes any other countries involved who had a hand in this. This will not end soon. I would like to thank our Premier and everyone working with him, for doing the best that they can trying to keep us safe and keep this VIRUS away from us....AMEN!

So you hope on some more @fact. But I doubt Elohim is pleased with the BVI and it's people full of hate. It is a only a matter of time before a big earthquake and worse comes here. If my people. . . do you know the rest? Sleep in your clothes and keep your sneakers by your bed, cuz walking on glass is a bad thing. And prepare yourselves for hell cuz that is where most of you haters are going.

Glad no one was hurt in this earthquake.. but I agree with “wondering” that I to don’t feel that God is happy with all of the hatred that have been spewing from persons esp. on that money gram reopening article..God said we must Love one another and this Love is not being shown (as per article).. like I said previously we need to be very careful God doesn’t Judge our land.. this isn’t a time to show hate and racism, it’s a time for us to show love one to another .. I pray God’s continued Mercy for us all and our land.. let’s us show honest love to each other so that when God weighs Us, He finds us balance and worthy of His Mercy and Favor.. Loving God and Others - 1st and 2nd Most Important Commandments and Loving others is just as important as Loving God.. Psalm 97:10 Ye that love the LORD, hate evil:.....as a people we need to “check ourselves” and ask if God would be pleased with Us..

God is not directly involved in any of this, YET. You will definitely know when he becomes involved (2 Peter 3:10)

Meanwhile, he has set universal laws in place that produce certain outcomes in response to certain behaviors like pollution, planetary exploitation, racism, animal cruelty etc etc. These outcomes may take seconds or centuries to manifest.

I would like to say that when times were good, the Puerto Rican majority group in general did show concern for the people in other Caribbean islands, but I have not seen any examples of this.

I am not deep in the Bible. I operate more from my conscience and sense of morality. I touch on all religions out of curiosity. One running theme I have run across in my curiosity is gratitude. Gratitude. Another,in the Christian Bible is the concept of throwing pearls at swines.
