Maduro House are first ever VISTS Track & Field Champions
Many individual performances highlighted the Meet, but in the final analysis the U20 Girls and Boys Divisional Champions were Kardiesha Auguiste and Nicholas Thomas respectively, whilst the U17 Winners were Janesha Emmanuel and Tyler Jackson.
Both Auguiste and Thomas garnered enough points to be named as Victrix and Victor.
Emmanuel won the 100m in a time of 15.7, whilst Thomas came home second in the Boys version, with his 12.9 time bettered by Osiah Vanterpool’s 12.4.
The U17 200m saw further wins for Emmanuel (34.4) and Jackson (27.3) as well as Thomas (26.40), with Shania Richards winning the U20 Girls in 28.30.
Modeste wins
The 300m were hotly contested with Radiance Modeste taking the win for the U17 Girls in just over 60 seconds. Auguiste romped to victory in the U20’s with her time of 52.00 and Jackson and Vanterpool both claimed victories in their respective age groups.
Mercer House swept the 4 x 100m Relays, with Vanterpool pipping Thomas at the line in what was the most exciting finish on the track.
Field Events
In the field events, Olivia Kuntz threw the Javelin 17.20 metres for the win in the Girls Division, with Jankya Jennings second with 16.82, whilst Thomas led the Boys with his 38.30m distance. The Shot Put saw another win for Kuntz (7.16m) and also for J. Balcombe (9.03).

‘Race not for the swift…’
Afterwards, School Principal Germaine Scatliffe expressed how pleased she was with the performances of the athletes and how important balancing education was with sport.
“Let me first say the results this afternoon were very welcoming. We started the event because we realised the students need to have fun and not just get an education. Now that we have a core of 48 students we were able to put together two houses and hold the competition. We ran with it this year with the motto ‘the race is not just for the swift, but for the one who keeps going to the end’ and the students, who didn’t have much practice, were very competitive and are already looking forward to next year,” Ms Scatliffe said.

Can't we have fun while getting an education?
