ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Weeks after the ousting of one of two Deputy Financial Secretaries, Mr Wendell M. Gaskin, who has been relocated to a little office outside of the Ministry of Finance with his title but no power, the National Democratic Party (NDP) regime has approved the appointment of a new Deputy Financial Secretary.

Former Clerk of the Legislative Counsel Ms M Alva McCall is now a Deputy Financial Secretary and has taken on the role in an acting capacity.

While the secretive NDP Administration is tight-lipped about the appointment, where it is alleged that many of the staff members in the Ministry of Finance and Departments under it is not even aware of the new appointment, it is believed Ms McCall was in office from last week.

Ms McCall is expected to replace former Deputy Financial Secretary Ms Patlian Jonson and will be responsible for Economic Development.

Her last assignment was that of Deputy Director of Policy and Statistics at the Financial Services Commission.

Ms McCall, a Virgin Islander, holds an MBA, in Finance from Wright State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems and Decision Sciences from Virginia State University.

Financial Secretary Mr Neil M. Smith did not respond to our queries on the appointment of Ms McCall.
