LEVERICK BAY, Virgin Gorda, VI – Al and Vondy, two Virgin Islanders, were aboard the speed boat ‘Donzi Daytona’ that took home the first place prize of $8k of this year’s Leverick Bay Poker Run race.

The two were followed by another resident of the VI Heather Holland who copped the 2ndprize, ‘EVA DEL MAR’ which came in at the 3rd place, ‘Nonsense’ was 4th, Brodwick Penn with the boat ‘Bad Dog’ got 5th, 6th place was Samuel Bobb on Wendy 32, 7th Piers Helm on ‘Monkey Business’, 8th was Bella Rosa and the 9th place prize went to Simon Anthony.

The prize for the best dressed team went to Heather Holland while first-timer to Poker Run Wally Castro copped the best boat prize. The four top winners each received cash prizes.

The proceeds of the day’s event are usually donated to groups on Virgin Gorda as a charitable gesture by the owners of Leverick Bay Resort and Marina Nick and Monica Willis. Once again the Diabetes Association of Virgin Gorda benefited as they will be receiving $10k from the proceeds of the event. Animal Rescue, the Cancer Society VG branch and a Youth track team will all be given cash donations of $1000k each.

While it was not said if the activity this year was larger than that of 2013 Mr Willis said that they did have a huge contingent from St Croix this year and an ever larger one from the Virgin Islands. It’s the 13th year of the event and a commitment was made by the promoters to continue in the future.

LIME BVI has pledged that they will continue to support the Poker Run activity in the future as the General Manager Mr Sean Auguste was on spot to make that commitment. Mr Nice Guy also pledged to further support the Virgin Gorda event which they said is one of the largest annual events on the Island.
