ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The recently launched Sports Beat Magazine will host representatives from the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) and the Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM) during a two-hour special on Sports and Development, slated for Thursday, February 7, from 7 to 9 pm on CBN 90.9 FM.

This is according to a release from the company which states that the program regularly airs from 7 to 8 pm on Thursdays, but because of the nature of the discussion, organizers have expanded the program by an hour.

Focus on Sports

“Producer-host of the Sports Beat Magazine, Dean H. Greenaway aka 'The Sportsman', said the two-hour special will focus on the areas of sports and development, sports tourism, funding and facilities. The public will also have an opportunity to participate in the discussion and hear the parties position on critical areas of sports,” they noted.

“Sports and Development has not been among the discussions leading up to the elections. Except hearing the ‘sports tourism’ buzz word, for example, but not much in the area of details, have been forthcoming,” said Mr Greenaway, who launched the program on January 3, 2019, and invited representatives of all parties to participate.

Plans and Position

“Here, parties will have a chance to expound on their plans and their position on other areas of sports development including pari-mutuel wagering, funding and facilities,” he noted.

According to Mr Greenaway, sports captures the interest and attention of the nation and like other segments of the society, needs proper attention, thus the basis for facilitating the discussion.

“The program can lead to important decisions regarding the development of sports in the territory,” Mr Greenaway said.

The release further notes, that “At least nine of the 13 members of the recently dissolved House of Assembly (HoA) were involved in sports, whether as players or administrators; two were presidents of sporting organizations.”
