ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Premier of the Virgin Islands (VI) Honourable Dr. D. Orlando Smith, speaking on the monthly talk show, NDP Radio, announced that, local businesses would benefit greatly at the conclusion of the Global Positioning System (GPS) programme that is currently being perfected by the local planning unit.

The show which was aired on August, 20, 2012 on a local radio station, is aimed at informing the public of government's plans, as well as listen to their views, problems and solutions. During the programme, the Premier stated that the GPS system will be a perfect aid in giving directions to others, for them to find where someone lives or places of business.

He said “People can be directed properly…they can find it easily.”

Once the launching of the system has been completed, Premier Smith noted, “it would be much easier for businesses to advertise their whereabouts for visitors to find specific places of interest in the Virgin Islands.

He stated that in a meeting with team members of the local Planning Unit, he was promised that they are working speedily to get it done.

The GPS system will also aid the VI in the monitoring, understanding and prediction of earthquakes, hurricanes, flooding, volcanic activities and landslides.

Dr. Smith did you say, "prediction of earthquake? " You may be stretching it a bit. Please amend that to read,"location of earthquake."
