EAST END, Tortola, VI - Local author and attorney at law Ayana S. Hull in continuing her effort to ensure that the Word of God is not forgotten in schools, teamed up with Dr. the Honourable Kedrick D. Pickering (R7) and AValu Supermarket owned by Deon and Samonia Vanterpool, and travelled to the eastern end of the island to donate books to the students in grades 4, 5 and 6 of the Francis Lettsome Primary School.

The ceremony began with the singing of the National Anthem, followed by the Territorial Song. The Principal, Mrs. Deborah James then introduced Ms. Hull who spoke to the students about the importance of reading and the morals and values that they can glean from the books of the Bible.

Ms Hull explained the purpose behind her book ‘The Pentateuch’ as she had been doing since the middle of last year when she first released the publication – a book that breaks down the first five books of the Bible into simple stories for pre-teens, tweens and teenagers to read and enjoy. Dr Pickering then spoke to the students and gave rave reviews about Ms. Hull.

He said to the students, "I have two main things to say. Do you know that Ms. Hull is the author of the Territorial Song? Those beautiful words that you just sang were written by her and her brother,” to which the children responded in applause. He also informed the students, secondly, that Ms. Hull is not only a local author but that she has studied at one of the top universities in the world.

He further explained that she is a graduate of Cambridge University in England and although she is also a very successful attorney, she is also finding the time to give back to her community in the form of her writings. He also informed the students that 'The Pentateuch' is the second book that Ms. Hull has written in this vein. She also authored ‘Financial Services Demystified’ in an effort for BVIslanders to become familiar with the financial services industry and so that they can be better prepared for the jobs that are available in that industry.

'The Pentateuch', Dr Pickering said, is meant to ensure the moral fabric of our children are kept and he encouraged every student to ensure that they read the book and when they meet him, ensure to let him know what the book said. Each student in grades 4, 5 and 6 were presented with a book and a book mark.

The principals of AValu could not be present due to conflicting schedules but they are said to be fully in support of the educational initiative spearheaded by the author. At the closing of the presentation, Ms. Hull also presented a book to the school’s library and also a personal copy to the Principal.

This news site asked Ms. Hull why this is so important to her. She replied, “The proceeds from these books will never be able to pay for the time I spent in putting them together, so the driver is not the money. I am more concerned with the social side of this country now and we must start at the root. I wish to make my civic contributions to the development of principles, morals, ethics, the ability to read fluently, and the ability to reason and think logically in the younger generation.”

She further added, “I believe that in our quest for improved economics, we have left some important intangibles behind. I can only do my little part to try to right this situation that is fast becoming a social shipwreck. In doing so, I put God first, because He said that if we did, all other things would be added unto us. I am in a very productive stage in my life right now, lots of ideas which I would like to see happen in the next year or two. I am trusting God as He leads the way.”

She said, “I wrote the first four volumes before The Pentateuch was even published. Now, I am now getting prepared to publish volume II and it should be on the island relatively soon. All partners from last year are back on board and I am grateful to be on God’s time and to receive His favour as He uses me to produce these books."

When asked if all the public schools were covered with the distribution of ‘The Pentateuch’, she indicated that the two schools in the First District (Isabella Morris and Leonora Delville) have not yet been covered nor has the Willard Wheatley Primary but she is still working in this regard to get books to them.
