ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Action at this year’s Emancipation Festival continued last night, July 31, 2012, in spectacular fashion at the Claudette “Boopie” Smith Festiville where patrons of all ages came out in hopes of being entertained by a bevy of local acts seeking to make a name for themselves on stage; they were not left disappointed by any means.

Last evening’s programme kicked off sometime after 9 p.m. and proceedings didn’t come to a halt until well after 2 a.m. today August 1, 2012. The Youth Night themed festivities featured performances from the VI Band and Jammers HP. Others in the line-up included JD, Mr. 284, Meeshak, Epic Elite, Monea, Hashim and PG 13 among others. Turntables were manned by DJ Dallas.

Proceedings heated up when artiste Meshak took to the stage and only continued to boil over from thereon. There was hardly any breathing room left in what became a packed audience, filled with teenagers and young adults who seemed to appreciate every chord and note that emanated from the stage.

Monea emerged onstage with an impressive crew of backup dancers to a deafening chorus of shrieks and screams from the youngsters in the audience. She belted out a few of her hits amidst a sequence of well choreographed dance moves. One song in particular, “Bam Bam Boogie” had the audience lapping up every bit as their eyes and ears were glued to her every movement and sound onstage. The audience just couldn’t seem to get enough as they gyrated into the night.

Local band, Jammers HD also joined in the act as they brought the house down with a medley of tunes which included a few popular Caribbean covers. From all appearances everyone in attendance was thoroughly entertained to the hilt.

The action in the village continues this evening with Culture Night.

The turnout was poor. People are not supporting the local acts and that is a fact!!!

Stop lying! The village had a damn good crowd last night especially considering the weather and the fact that it was a week night> I was shocked that so many people came out. How can you look at these pictures and still lie? Something really wrong with your head.
