ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – District Governor of Lions International for the zone 60 B Lion Isaac C. Solomon MJF (Melvin Jones Fellow) visited the Territory earlier this week to conduct an audit of Lions and Leo Clubs here in the Virgin Islands and to ensure that their operations are in line with expectations.

He made the visit on Wednesday October 22, 2014 and held a press conference at Maria’s By The Sea where he outlined that not only will he do audits of the clubs but also discuss his goals and objectives for the district.

He started by first meeting with the Lions and Leos of the Tortola clubs on the Wednesday evening. Then on Thursday October 23, 2014 he paid courtesy calls on His Excellency Governor John S. Duncan OBE and Premier Dr the Hon. D Orlando Smith before travelling to Virgin Gorda to repeat the process with the Valley Sound Lions and Leos.

He left the Territory on Friday October 24, 2014 for US Virgin Islands to make his official visit to clubs in that Territory.

District 60 B comprises of Lions and Leos Clubs from the Cayman Islands in the north to Grenada in the south of the Caribbean Sea.

Speaking about the audits that he came to conduct, Lion Solomon said, “It is essentially to make sure that we have a look at the business processes of the clubs because afterall, we collect funds from the public and we have to be accountable.”

“Besides that, being the world’s largest service organisations, Lions International is a rules-based organization, we have our own set of constitution and by-laws by which we abide and so part of [my] visit is to ensure we are in compliance not only with the laws and constitution of Lions International but that we are also accountable for the funds that we accept from the public,” he said.

“Besides that it is an opportunity for me to see how I can support the clubs in strengthening their membership, their leadership and their areas of operations,” said District Governor Solomon.
