Lions Club of Tortola hosts 10th Ann. Special Needs Games
The Event scheduled for the A.O. Shirley Grounds will see Special Need Athletes from the Eselyn Henley Richez Learning Centre, the BVI Social Services and other areas of the community will compete in the 50 meter dash; the lime and spoon race; the sack race; 3 legged race and much more.
Lions Club President, Mr. Hesketh Newton, commented that the Lions Club has seen the Games grow successfully over the last 9 years.
“This is our tenth anniversary and every year we have had greater and greater participation and the children all look forward to the event. We will have additional games to mark the 10th anniversary and plan to make it much more attractive to participants and spectators. It will certainly be memorable,” he said.
The BVI Grasshoppers would be on hand to skip – jump and hula-hoop!
“The Lions and Leos will also be having a little inter club competition and we will be involving Parents as well” noted Newton.
There is no charge for admission to the event and plenty of refreshments will be available.
Mr. Newton also urged everyone to come out and support those with Special Needs.
“Personally I look forward to these Games and they have become one of our featured annual events. The Lions all look forward to the event and the participants all look forward to competing and showcasing their talents. Please, everyone make some time in your calendar and come out to support the event and cheer on the kids!”
