ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Huntums Ghut resident, Leslie McKenzie, confessed to kicking a police officer in the groin several times after he was arrested for disorderly conduct at Baugher’s Bay last month.

McKenzie pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and assault on police but pleaded not guilty to assaulting three police officers when he appeared before Magistrate Ayanna Dabreo on May 23, 2014. He was unrepresented at the time.

According to the allegations read by Crown Counsel Chantal Flax, three police officers were on routine patrol in a vehicle at Baughers Bay at about 1:50 AM on April 11, 2014 and visited Perler’s Bar where they observed the defendant behaving in a disorderly manner, shouting loudly and cursing and insulting patrons.

Before the police officers could intervene, the defendant was spoken to by an off duty police officer. The three officers approached defendant and one addressed him by cautioning him and telling him his behaviour was disorderly and he was cautioned and was told to desist.

McKenzie raised his finger and made a gun shaped sign at the officer. He then placed his hand in the officer’s face and allegedly said: “You don't know who I be. I gon deal with you. Arrest me nah.”

He was then told he was under arrest for disorderly conduct and assault on a police officer. The officer took the defendant by his right hand and arrested him with the assistance of other officers.

Mckenzie was then pulled away and a struggle ensued and he was told of a further offense of resisting arrest. He attempted to escape but was subsequently subdued and placed in the police vehicle.

When en route the defendant further assaulted the officers, kicking them several times. On arrival at the police station he allegedly shouted loudly and insulted them.

The group then met a detective sergeant who inquired what was happening and the defendant kicked him in the groin area about three times. He was cautioned and told of a further offence and he allegedly replied, “I going kill you, you [expletive] punk.”

McKenzie remains on bail and will return to court for a hearing again on June 13, 2014.

Your boy must first of all want help..if and when he does, I'm sure someone can and will reach out. It might just be you to help and encourage him. Think about it. The first thing he needs to do is go back to court and plead guilty. Offer an apology to the officers and throw himself at the mercy of the court. First jail term over 3 months he is history.

Why is it that when a person is not from here and they get into trouble with the law, the first comment that can be made is 'deport him/her'. He's human too. That doesn't make what he did right but at the end of the day you need to look deeper into the lives of these individuals and wonder what the problem is, sometimes it goes deeper than the surface and there's more that meets the eyes.

as an ex pat living here. i always say if you can't respect the laws of the people land then you need to go back where u come from. start deporting them once they decide to be a nuisance to society. i'm sure that he would have gotten some licks from the police if he had behaved so in what ever country he from. SEND THEM HOME ONCE THEY CAN'T BEHAVE.
