Latino community warned against selling their votes
“I basically encouraged the Latino community to come out and vote. To don't let anyone compromise their dignity and integrity trying to buy their votes,” he told this news site following his speech.
“I told them that they did not migrate here for that but to become better people and for politicians to come out and offer Belonger's status or any other bribe especially on the brink of an election is total deception that they will end up having to pay the true price at a later stage while the National Democratic Party Government put us more in debt on the backs of us citizens and Belongers,” he said.
Mr Osborne added that he told them to go to the polls and vote for the Virgin Islands Party by putting their X next to the lady with the torch “because we have always recognised them as being a part of this community and for that we will engage our Latino brothers and sisters even closer by putting a desk in place to assist with their problems since the language barrier is one of the main issues for communication here in the Virgin Islands.”
Before he commenced his speech proper, he had said that he comes from District Nine and was there to support the VIP candidate for District Six, Elvis ‘Juggy’ Harrigan. He noted that there is a huge Latino presence in District Six and it was important that he addressed them.
On May 10, 2015 the VIP held a fun day for the Latino community at the softball field in Road Town during which Fourth District candidate JoAnn ‘Roxie’ Romney addressed the Latino community seeking their support. Osborne had acted as translator for Romney.
Osborne, who learnt Spanish while at university in Puerto Rico, encouraged persons to learn a second language if they have the opportunity to do so.
