ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – There was just a single race on Thursday January 28, 2016 at the Miami Sailing World Cup, with Alec Andersen and Chris Brockbank unable to gain ground in the hunt for a qualification spot for the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Unusual weather for Miami, torrential rainfall and a chill in the air, meant only one race took place in Biscayne Bay and sailing in the Gold Fleet for the first time, having had a stellar previous day to grab the last available spot for the Gold Fleet finale, Andersen and Brockbank finished 28th.

On the Rio 2016 Olympic qualification front, there is plenty happening in the north, with the USA in the driving seat.

Thomas Barrows III and Joseph Morris are seventh on 71 points. Canada follows with David Mori and Justin Barnes 29th on 104 points and Virgin Islanders Alec Anderson and Christopher Brockbank are down in 31st.

With just four races left, all of which are scheduled for today January 29, 2016, it is the last chance saloon for the Virgin Islanders if they are to fulfill their dream and reach Rio 2016.

The pair progressed into the Gold Fleet with three of the best races of the Regatta in Yellow Fleet, when they were able to secure a 9th, 4th and 13th.

In the South, Chilean brothers Benjamin and Cristóbal Grez Ahrens haven't made things easy on themselves in their battle against Uruguay's Santiago Silveira and Philipp Umpierre for the South American 49er Rio spot. A disastrous start and up and down results gave the Uruguayans the advantage after two days.
